Journal ArticleDOI
Abnormal asymmetries in subcortical brain volume in schizophrenia.
Naohiro Okada,Masaki Fukunaga,Fumio Yamashita,Daisuke Koshiyama,Hidenaga Yamamori,Kazutaka Ohi,Yuka Yasuda,Michiko Fujimoto,Yoshifumi Watanabe,Noriaki Yahata,Noriaki Yahata,Kiyotaka Nemoto,Derrek P. Hibar,T.G.M. van Erp,Haruo Fujino,Masanori Isobe,Shuichi Isomura,Tatsunobu Natsubori,Hisashi Narita,Naoki Hashimoto,Jun Miyata,Shinsuke Koike,Tsutomu Takahashi,Hidenori Yamasue,Koji Matsuo,Toshiaki Onitsuka,Tetsuya Iidaka,Yasuhiro Kawasaki,Reiji Yoshimura,Michio Suzuki,Jessica A. Turner,Masatoshi Takeda,Paul M. Thompson,Norio Ozaki,Kiyoto Kasai,Ryota Hashimoto +35 more
TL;DR: The findings suggest the possibility of aberrant laterality in neural pathways and connectivity patterns related to the pallidum in schizophrenia, and replicate the rank order of effect sizes for subcortical volumetric changes in schizophrenia reported by the ENIGMA consortium.
Journal ArticleDOI
A voxel-based morphometry study of frontal gray matter correlates of impulsivity.
Koji Matsuo,Mark Nicoletti,Kiyotaka Nemoto,John P. Hatch,Marco Aurélio Monteiro Peluso,Fabiano G. Nery,Jair C. Soares +6 more
TL;DR: The results of this morphometry study indicate that small OFC volume relate to high impulsivity and extend the prior finding that the VMPFC is involved in the circuit modulating impulsivity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prefrontal hyperactivation during working memory task in untreated individuals with major depressive disorder.
Koji Matsuo,Koji Matsuo,David C. Glahn,Marco Aurélio Monteiro Peluso,Marco Aurélio Monteiro Peluso,John P. Hatch,E. S. Monkul,Pablo Najt,Marsal Sanches,Frank Zamarripa,Jinqi Li,Jack L. Lancaster,Peter T. Fox,Jia-Hong Gao,Jair C. Soares,Jair C. Soares +15 more
TL;DR: In vivo imaging evidence of abnormal frontolimbic circuit function during working memory processing in individuals with MDD is provided, and MDD patients showed significantly greater left dorsolateral cortex activation during the n-back task compared to the healthy controls.
Journal ArticleDOI
Voxel-based analyses of gray/white matter volume and diffusion tensor data in major depression.
Osamu Abe,Hidenori Yamasue,Kiyoto Kasai,Haruyasu Yamada,Shigeki Aoki,Hideyuki Inoue,Kunio Takei,Motomu Suga,Koji Matsuo,Koji Matsuo,Tadafumi Kato,Yoshitaka Masutani,Kuni Ohtomo +12 more
TL;DR: Although there was no local area where brain volume and MD were significantly correlated with disease severity, FA tended to correlate negatively with total days depressed in the right anterior cingulate and the left frontal white matter, suggesting that the frontolimbic neural circuit might play an important role in the neuropathology of patients with major depressive disorder.
Journal ArticleDOI
Altered gene expression of histone deacetylases in mood disorder patients.
Teruyuki Hobara,Shusaku Uchida,Koji Otsuki,Toshio Matsubara,Hiromasa Funato,Koji Matsuo,Masatomo Suetsugi,Yoshifumi Watanabe +7 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that aberrant transcriptional regulation caused by the altered expression of HDACs is associated with the pathophysiology of mood disorders.
