TL;DR: The cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers amyloid β (Aβ)‐42, total‐Tau (T‐tau), and phosphorylated‐t Tau (P‐tAU) demonstrate good diagnostic accuracy for Alzheimer's disease (AD), but there are large variations in biomarker measurements between studies, and between and within laboratories.
Journal ArticleDOI
Disease-modifying properties of long-term lithium treatment for amnestic mild cognitive impairment: randomised controlled trial
Orestes Vicente Forlenza,Breno S. Diniz,Marcia Radanovic,Franklin Santana Santos,Leda Leme Talib,Wagner F. Gattaz +5 more
TL;DR: The notion that lithium has disease-modifying properties with potential clinical implications in the prevention of Alzheimer's disease is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increased Serum IL-1β Level in Alzheimer’s Disease and Mild Cognitive Impairment
Orestes Vicente Forlenza,Breno S. Diniz,Leda Leme Talib,Vanessa Amaral Mendonça,Elida B. Ojopi,Wagner F. Gattaz,Antônio Lúcio Teixeira +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, an abnormal inflammatory response has been associated to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease and may be a marker of an ongoing neurodegenerative process, and abnormal inflammatory responses have been associated with the progression of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Physical Exercise in MCI Elderly Promotes Reduction of Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines and Improvements on Cognition and BDNF Peripheral Levels
Carla Manuela Crispim Nascimento,Jessica Rodrigues Pereira,Larissa Pires de Andrade,Marcelo Garuffi,Leda Leme Talib,Orestes Vicente Forlenza,José M. Cancela,Márcia Regina Cominetti,Florindo Stella +8 more
TL;DR: Physical exercise was effective to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines and to improve BDNF peripheral levels, with positive reflexes on cognition in elderly MCI individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oxidative stress in early stage Bipolar Disorder and the association with response to lithium.
Rafael T. de Sousa,Carlos A. Zarate,Marcus V. Zanetti,Alana C. Costa,Leda Leme Talib,Wagner F. Gattaz,Rodrigo Machado-Vieira,Rodrigo Machado-Vieira +7 more
TL;DR: The present findings suggest a reactive increase in antioxidant enzymes levels during depressive episodes in early stage BD with minimal prior treatment and decreased lipid peroxidation levels were observed, associated with lithium's clinical efficacy.
