The Hinode(Solar-B)Mission: An Overview
Takeo Kosugi,K. Matsuzaki,Taro Sakao,Toshifumi Shimizu,Y. Sone,Sumitaka Tachikawa,Tatsuaki Hashimoto,Kenji Minesugi,Akira Ohnishi,T. Yamada,Saku Tsuneta,Hirohisa Hara,Kiyoshi Ichimoto,Yoshinori Suematsu,Masumi Shimojo,Takashi Watanabe,Shigenobu Shimada,John M. Davis,L. D. Hill,J. K. Owens,A. M. Title,J. L. Culhane,Louise K. Harra,George A. Doschek,Leon Golub +24 more
TL;DR: The Hinode satellite as discussed by the authors is the successor to the Yohkoh mission, which aims to understand how magnetic energy gets transferred from the photosphere to the upper atmosphere and results in explosive energy releases.
Journal ArticleDOI
The EUV Imaging Spectrometer for Hinode
J. L. Culhane,Louise K. Harra,A. M. James,K. Al-Janabi,L. Bradley,Rifat A Chaudry,Kerrin Rees,J. Tandy,P. D. Thomas,M. C. R. Whillock,Berend Winter,George A. Doschek,Clarence M. Korendyke,Charles M. TL;DR: The EUV Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) as mentioned in this paper is a two-element, normal incidence design with a backside-illuminated, thinned CCD, which has a significantly greater effective area than previous orbiting EUV spectrographs with typical active region 2 -5 s exposure times in the brightest lines.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The first mission of ESA's Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 programme and a mission of international collaboration between ESA and NASA, was launched on 10 February 2020 04:03 UTC from Cape Canaveral and aims to address key questions of solar and heliospheric physics pertaining to how the Sun creates and controls the Heliosphere, and why solar activity changes with time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coronal ``Wave'': Magnetic Footprint of a Coronal Mass Ejection?
Gemma Attrill,Louise K. Harra,Lidia van Driel-Gesztelyi,Lidia van Driel-Gesztelyi,Lidia van Driel-Gesztelyi,Pascal Démoulin +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigate the properties of two "classical" EUV Imaging Telescope (EIT) coronal waves and observe deep core dimmings near the flare site and also widespread diffuse dimming, accompanying the expansion of the EIT wave, and propose a new mechanism where driven magnetic reconnections between the skirt of the expanding CME magnetic field and quiet-Sun magnetic loops generate the observed bright diffuse front.
Journal ArticleDOI
EUV emission lines and diagnostics observed with Hinode/EIS
Peter R. Young,Del Giulio Zanna,Helen E. Mason,K. P. Dere,Enrico Landi,M. Landini,George A. Doschek,Charles M. Brown,Len Culhane,Louise K. Harra,Tetsuya Watanabe,Hirohisa Hara +11 more
TL;DR: A list of emission lines recommended to be included in EIS observation studies is presented in this article based on analysis of blending and diagnostic potential using the CHIANTI atomic database, identifying the most useful density diagnostics from the ions covered by EIS.
