Journal ArticleDOI

Stimulation of subterritories of the subthalamic nucleus reveals its role in the integration of the emotional and motor aspects of behavior.

TL;DR: Two parkinsonian patients who experienced transient hypomanic states when the subthalamic nucleus (STN) was stimulated during postoperative adjustment of the electrical parameters for antiparkinsonian therapy agreed to have the mood disorder reproduced, in conjunction with motor, cognitive, and behavioral evaluations and concomitant functional neuroimaging.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus in Parkinson’s disease: a 5 year follow up

TL;DR: Despite moderate motor and cognitive decline, probably due to disease progression, the marked improvement in motor function observed postoperatively was sustained 5 years after neurosurgery.
Journal ArticleDOI

Clinical predictive factors of subthalamic stimulation in Parkinson's disease.

TL;DR: The results are consistent with the classical inclusion criteria for STN stimulation, but imply that the decision to operate on the oldest patients and/or patients with gait and postural disorders, who are poorly responsive to levodopa, should be weighed carefully.
