Journal ArticleDOI
Mapping earthworm communities in Europe
Michiel Rutgers,Alberto Orgiazzi,Ciro Gardi,Jörg Römbke,Stephan Jänsch,Aidan M. Keith,Roy Neilson,Briand Boag,Olaf Schmidt,Archie K. Murchie,Rod P. Blackshaw,Guénola Pérès,Daniel Cluzeau,Muriel Guernion,Maria J. I. Briones,Javier Rodeiro,Raúl Piñeiro,Darío J. Díaz Cosín,J. Paulo Sousa,Marjetka Suhadolc,Ivan Kos,Paul-Henning Krogh,Jack H. Faber,Christian Mulder,J.J. Bogte,Harm J. van Wijnen,A.J. Schouten,Dick de Zwart +27 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors collected, harmonized, collated, modelled, and depicted on a soil biodiversity map using multiple regressions relating relatively low density earthworm community data to soil characteristics, land use, vegetation and climate factors with a greater spatial resolution.
Journal ArticleDOI
Selecting cost effective and policy-relevant biological indicators for European monitoring of soil biodiversity and ecosystem function
Bryan S. Griffiths,Jörg Römbke,Rüdiger M. Schmelz,Adam Scheffczyk,Jack H. Faber,Jaap Bloem,Guénola Pérès,Daniel Cluzeau,Abad Chabbi,Marjetka Suhadolc,José Paulo Sousa,P. Martins da Silva,Filipe Carvalho,Sara Mendes,Paula V. Morais,Romeu Francisco,Carla Pereira,Michael Bonkowski,Stefan Geisen,Richard D. Bardgett,F. T. de Vries,Thomas Bolger,Tara Dirilgen,Olaf Schmidt,Anne Winding,Niels Bohse Hendriksen,Anders Johansen,Laurent Philippot,Pierre Plassart,David Bru,Bruce C. Thomson,Robert I. Griffiths,Mark J. Bailey,Aidan M. Keith,Michiel Rutgers,Christian Mulder,S.E. Hannula,Rachel Creamer,Dorothy Stone +38 more
TL;DR: All the indicators were able to differentiate between the sites but, as no single indicator was sensitive to all the differences in land use intensity, it is suggested that an indicator programme should be based upon a suite of different indicators.
Journal ArticleDOI
Abundance and diversity of CO2-fixing bacteria in grassland soils close to natural carbon dioxide springs.
Urška Videmšek,Alexandra Hagn,Marjetka Suhadolc,Viviane Radl,Heike Knicker,Michael Schloter,Dominik Vodnik +6 more
TL;DR: Surprisingly, a reduction of “red-like” cbbL genes copies was observed in bulk soil and rhizosphere samples from the sites with the highest CO2 concentrations, which indicates that only a part of the autotrophic CO2-fixing microbes could adapt to the very highCO2 concentrations and adverse life conditions that are governed by mofette gaseous regime.
Journal ArticleDOI
Large variation in glyphosate mineralization in 21 different agricultural soils explained by soil properties
Nghia Khoi Nguyen,Ulrike Dörfler,Gerhard Welzl,Jean Charles Munch,Reiner Schroll,Marjetka Suhadolc +5 more
TL;DR: The results highlighted the influential role of soil exchangeable acidity, which should therefore be considered in pesticide risk assessments and management to limit efficiently the environmental transfers of glyphosate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of different compost amendments on the abundance and composition of alkB harboring bacterial communities in a soil under industrial use contaminated with hydrocarbons.
Stefanie Wallisch,Tjasa Gril,X. Dong,Gerd Welzl,Christian Bruns,Ester Heath,Marion Engel,Marjetka Suhadolc,Michael Schloter +8 more
TL;DR: Compost amendments significantly change abundance and diversity pattern of alkB harboring microbes in Technosol and might be a useful agent to stimulate bioremediation of hydrocarbons in contaminated soils.
