Journal ArticleDOI
Electric breakdown in ultrathin MgO tunnel barrier junctions for spin-transfer torque switching
Markus Schäfers,Volker Drewello,Günter Reiss,Andy Thomas,K. Thiel,Gerrit Eilers,Markus Münzenberg,Henning Schuhmann,Michael Seibt +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigate the dielectric breakdown of spin-transfer torque (STT) switching in magnetic tunnel junctions and find that instead of local pinhole formation at a constant rate, massive electromigration and heating leads to displacement of the junction material and voids are appearing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Parameter Space for Thermal Spin-Transfer Torque
Johannes Christian Leutenantsmeyer,Marvin Walter,Vladyslav Zbarsky,Markus Münzenberg,Rashid Gareev,Karsten Rott,Andy Thomas,Günter Reiss,Patrick Peretzki,Henning Schuhmann,Michael Seibt,Michael Czerner,Christian Heiliger +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present results on the fabrication and characterization of magnetic tunnel junctions with three monolayer thin MgO barriers, and demonstrate tunneling magnetoresistance ratios of up to 55% to 64% for 3 to 4 mgO barrier thickness.
Journal ArticleDOI
Efficiency of ultrafast optically induced spin transfer in Heusler compounds
Daniel Steil,Jakob Walowski,F. Gerhard,Tobias Kiessling,Daniel Ebke,Andy Thomas,Takahide Kubota,Mikihiko Oogane,Yasuo Ando,Johannes Otto,Andreas Mann,Moritz Hofherr,Peter Elliott,J. K. Dewhurst,Günter Reiss,Laurens W. Molenkamp,Martin Aeschlimann,Mirko Cinchetti,Markus Münzenberg,Sangeeta Sharma,Stefan Mathias +20 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated to what extend ultrafast optically induced spin transfer is a general phenomenon and showed that it is possible to control its efficiency by band structure engineering.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ion-beam induced magnetic anisotropies in iron films
TL;DR: In this article, the magnetization in the films were measured by means of Perturbed Angular Correlation (PAC) spectroscopy with implanted 111In tracer ions, or the Magneto-Optic Kerr Effect (MOKE).
Journal ArticleDOI
Measurement of the magneto-optical response of Fe and CrO 2 epitaxial films by pump-probe spectroscopy: Evidence for spin-charge separation
Ettore Carpene,Fabio Boschini,H. Hedayat,C. Piovera,Claudia Dallera,Ezio Puppin,M. Mansurova,Markus Münzenberg,X. Zhang,Arunava Gupta +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the magneto-optical response of Fe and CrO$ epitaxial films by pump-probe polarimetry is investigated, showing that charge and spin dynamics can be unambiguously disentangled.
