Journal ArticleDOI

Not-so-supervised: A survey of semi-supervised, multi-instance, and transfer learning in medical image analysis

TL;DR: In this article, a survey of semi-supervised, multiple instance and transfer learning in medical image segmentation is presented, and connections between these learning scenarios, and opportunities for future research are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantitative Analysis of Pulmonary Emphysema Using Local Binary Patterns

TL;DR: The measured emphysema severity was in good agreement with a pulmonary function test (PFT) achieving correlation coefficients of up to |r| = 0.79 in 39 subjects, and the texture-based measures correlated significantly better with PFT than did RA.
Journal ArticleDOI

Machine learning approaches in medical image analysis: From detection to diagnosis

TL;DR: This paper highlights new research directions and discusses three main challenges related to machine learning in medical imaging: coping with variation in imaging protocols, learning from weak labels, and interpretation and evaluation of results.
