Journal ArticleDOI
Histone demethylase KDM6A directly senses oxygen to control chromatin and cell fate.
Abhishek A. Chakraborty,Tuomas Laukka,Matti Myllykoski,Alison E. Ringel,Matthew A. Booker,Michael Y. Tolstorukov,Yuzhong Jeff Meng,Sam Meier,Rebecca B. Jennings,Amanda L. Creech,Zachary T. Herbert,Samuel K. McBrayer,Benjamin A. Olenchock,Jacob D. Jaffe,Marcia C. Haigis,Rameen Beroukhim,Rameen Beroukhim,Rameen Beroukhim,Sabina Signoretti,Peppi Koivunen,William G. Kaelin,William G. Kaelin +21 more
TL;DR: It is reported that hypoxia promotes histone methylation in a HIF- and 2-HG–independent manner and it is found that the H3K27 histone demethylase KDM6A/UTX, but not its paralog KDM5A, is oxygen sensitive.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antagonistic Functions of MBP and CNP Establish Cytosolic Channels in CNS Myelin
Nicolas Snaidero,Nicolas Snaidero,Caroline Velte,Matti Myllykoski,Arne Raasakka,Arne Raasakka,Alexander Ignatev,Hauke B. Werner,Michelle S Erwig,Wiebke Möbius,Wiebke Möbius,Petri Kursula,Petri Kursula,Klaus-Armin Nave,Klaus-Armin Nave,Mikael Simons +15 more
TL;DR: This study identified 2,′3′-cyclic nucleotide 3′-phosphodiesterase (CNP), an oligodendrocyte-specific protein previously implicated in the maintenance of axonal integrity, as an essential factor in generating and maintaining cytoplasm within the myelin compartment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Myelin-specific proteins: a structurally diverse group of membrane-interacting molecules.
TL;DR: A detailed understanding of myelin protein structure and function at the molecular level will be required to fully grasp their physiological roles in the myelin sheath.
Journal ArticleDOI
Membrane Association Landscape of Myelin Basic Protein Portrays Formation of the Myelin Major Dense Line.
Arne Raasakka,Arne Raasakka,Salla Ruskamo,Julia Kowal,Robert Barker,Anne Baumann,Anne Baumann,Anne L. Martel,Jussi T. Tuusa,Matti Myllykoski,Jochen Bürck,Anne S. Ulrich,Henning Stahlberg,Petri Kursula,Petri Kursula +14 more
TL;DR: The results support the formation of an amorphous protein phase of MBP between two membrane bilayers and provide a molecular model for MDL formation during myelination, which is of importance when understanding myelin assembly and demyelinating conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structural analysis of the complex between calmodulin and full-length myelin basic protein, an intrinsically disordered molecule
Viivi Majava,Chaozhan Wang,Matti Myllykoski,Salla M. Kangas,Sung Ung Kang,Nobuhiro Hayashi,Peter Baumgärtel,Anthony M. Heape,Gert Lubec,Petri Kursula +9 more
TL;DR: The results provide a detailed picture of the MBP–CaM interaction, including a 3D model of the complex between full-length proteins, and analyze the post-translational modifications of rat brain MBP, identifying a novel MBP modification, glucosylation.
