Ulrich Schumann,Bernadett Weinzierl,Oliver Reitebuch,Hans Schlager,Andreas Minikin,Caroline Forster,Robert Baumann,Thomas Sailer,Kaspar Graf,H. Mannstein,Christiane Voigt,Stephan Rahm,R. Simmet,Monika Scheibe,Michael Lichtenstern,Paul Stock,H. Rüba,Dominik Schäuble,Arnold Tafferner,Marc Rautenhaus,T. Gerz,Helmut Ziereis,M. Krautstrunk,Christian Mallaun,Jean-François Gayet,K. Lieke,Konrad Kandler,Martin Ebert,Stephan Weinbruch,Andreas Stohl,Josef Gasteiger,Silke Groß,Volker Freudenthaler,Matthias Wiegner,Albert Ansmann,Matthias Tesche,Haraldur Ólafsson,K. Sturm +37 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors performed in-situ measurements of volcanic ash plumes over Europe between Southern Germany and Iceland with the Falcon aircraft during the eruption period of the Eyjafjalla volcano between 19 April and 18 May 2010.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biofuel blending reduces particle emissions from aircraft engines at cruise conditions
Richard H. Moore,Kenneth L. Thornhill,Bernadett Weinzierl,Bernadett Weinzierl,Daniel Sauer,Daniel Sauer,Eugenio D’Ascoli,Eugenio D’Ascoli,J. Kim,Michael Lichtenstern,Monika Scheibe,Brian Beaton,Andreas J. Beyersdorf,Andreas J. Beyersdorf,John D. W. Barrick,Dan Bulzan,Chelsea A. Corr,Chelsea A. Corr,Ewan Crosbie,Tina Jurkat,R. Anderson +32 more
TL;DR: Observations from research aircraft that sampled the exhaust of engines onboard a NASA DC‐8 aircraft as they burned conventional Jet A fuel and a 50:50 blend of Jet A and a biofuel derived from Camelina oil show that, compared to using conventional fuels, biofuel blending reduces particle number and mass emissions immediately behind the aircraft by 50 to 70 per cent.

TL;DR: The European project RECONCILE has comprehensively addressed remaining questions in the context of polar ozone depletion, with the objective to quantify the rates of some of the most relevant, yet still uncertain physical and chemical processes as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Meixner,Eva Falge,Cornelius Zetzsch,Andrei Serafimovich,Anika Bargsten,Thomas Behrendt,Tobias Biermann,Claudia Breuninger,Stephanie Dix,Stephanie Dix,Tobias Gerken,Martina Hunner,Martina Hunner,Lydia Lehmann-Pape,Korbian Hens,Georg Jocher,Georg Jocher,Jürgen Kesselmeier,Johannes Lüers,Jens-Christopher Mayer,Alexander Moravek,Daniel Plake,Michael Riederer,Friederike Rütz,Monika Scheibe,Monika Scheibe,Lukas Siebicke,Lukas Siebicke,Matthias Sörgel,Katharina Staudt,Ivonne Trebs,Anywhere Tsokankunku,M. Welling,Veronika Wolff,Zhilin Zhu +35 more
TL;DR: In this article, the coupling between the trunk space, the canopy and the above-canopy atmosphere was analyzed for different in-and above canopy layers, coupling between layers was classi- fied according to already published procedures, and gradients and fluxes of meteorological quantities as well as concen- trations of non-reactive and reactive trace compounds have been sorted along the coupling classes.
