The Kobresia pygmaea ecosystem of the Tibetan highlands – Origin, functioning and degradation of the world's largest pastoral alpine ecosystem: Kobresia pastures of Tibet
Georg Miehe,Per-Marten Schleuss,Elke Seeber,Wolfgang Babel,Tobias Biermann,Martin Braendle,Fahu Chen,Heinz Coners,Thomas Foken,Tobias Gerken,Hans Graf,Georg Guggenberger,Silke Hafner,Maika Holzapfel,Johannes Ingrisch,Yakov Kuzyakov,Zhongping Lai,Lukas W. Lehnert,Christoph Leuschner,Xiao Gang Li,Jianquan Liu,Shibin Liu,Yaoming Ma,Sabine Miehe,Volker Mosbrugger,Henry J. Noltie,Joachim Schmidt,Sandra Spielvogel,Sebastian Unteregelsbacher,Yun Wang,Sandra Willinghöfer,Xingliang Xu,Xingliang Xu,Yongping Yang,S. Zhang,Lars Opgenoorth,Karsten Wesche,Karsten Wesche +37 more
TL;DR: Traditional migratory rangeland management was sustainable over millennia, and possibly still offers the best strategy to conserve and possibly increase C stocks in the Kobresia turf.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pasture degradation modifies the water and carbon cycles of the Tibetan highlands
Wolfgang Babel,Tobias Biermann,Tobias Biermann,Heinz Coners,Eva Falge,Elke Seeber,Johannes Ingrisch,Johannes Ingrisch,Per Schleuß,Tobias Gerken,Tobias Gerken,Tobias Gerken,Jürgen Leonbacher,Thomas Leipold,Sandra Willinghöfer,Klaus Schützenmeister,Olga Shibistova,Olga Shibistova,Lena Becker,Silke Hafner,Sandra Spielvogel,Sandra Spielvogel,Xiao Gang Li,Xingliang Xu,Xingliang Xu,Yue Sun,Yue Sun,Lang Zhang,Yongping Yang,Yaoming Ma,Karsten Wesche,Hans-F. Graf,Christoph Leuschner,Georg Guggenberger,Yakov Kuzyakov,Yakov Kuzyakov,Georg Miehe,Thomas Foken +37 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated changes of surface properties and processes together with atmospheric feed- backs in the world's two largest alpine ecosystems, the alpine steppe and the Ko-bresia pygmaea pastures of the Tibetan Plateau.
Journal ArticleDOI
Methane and carbon dioxide fluxes over a lake: comparison between eddy covariance, floating chambers and boundary layer method
Kukka-Maaria Erkkilä,Anne Ojala,David Bastviken,Tobias Biermann,Jouni Heiskanen,Anders Lindroth,Olli Peltola,Miitta Rantakari,Timo Vesala,Ivan Mammarella +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the boundary layer method (BLM) was used to estimate the flux of CO 2 and CH 4 at Lake Kuivajarvi in Finland, and the results showed that BLM fluxes were mainly lower than EC, with the more recent model kTE giving the best fit with EC fluxes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coupling processes and exchange of energy and reactive and non-reactive trace gases at a forest site – results of the EGER experiment
Thomas Foken,Franz X. Meixner,Eva Falge,Cornelius Zetzsch,Andrei Serafimovich,Anika Bargsten,Thomas Behrendt,Tobias Biermann,Claudia Breuninger,Stephanie Dix,Stephanie Dix,Tobias Gerken,Martina Hunner,Martina Hunner,Lydia Lehmann-Pape,Korbian Hens,Georg Jocher,Georg Jocher,Jürgen Kesselmeier,Johannes Lüers,Jens-Christopher Mayer,Alexander Moravek,Daniel Plake,Michael Riederer,Friederike Rütz,Monika Scheibe,Monika Scheibe,Lukas Siebicke,Lukas Siebicke,Matthias Sörgel,Katharina Staudt,Ivonne Trebs,Anywhere Tsokankunku,M. Welling,Veronika Wolff,Zhilin Zhu +35 more
TL;DR: In this article, the coupling between the trunk space, the canopy and the above-canopy atmosphere was analyzed for different in-and above canopy layers, coupling between layers was classi- fied according to already published procedures, and gradients and fluxes of meteorological quantities as well as concen- trations of non-reactive and reactive trace compounds have been sorted along the coupling classes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Turbulent flux observations and modelling over a shallow lake and a wet grassland in the Nam Co basin, Tibetan Plateau
Tobias Biermann,Wolfgang Babel,Weiqiang Ma,Xuelong Chen,Elisabeth Thiem,Yaoming Ma,Thomas Foken +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, turbulent fluxes were measured over wet grassland and a shallow lake with a single eddy-covariance complex at the shoreline in the Nam Co basin in summer 2009.
