Solar sources of impulsive solar energetic particle events and their magnetic field connection to the earth
Nariaki Nitta,Donald V. Reames,Marc L. DeRosa,Yang Liu,Seiji Yashiro,Natchimuthuk Gopalswamy +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the solar origin of impulsive solar energetic particle (SEP) events, often referred to as 3He-rich flares, by attempting to locate the source regions of 117 events as observed at 2-3 MeV amu-1.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Energetic Particle Detector - Energetic particle instrument suite for the Solar Orbiter mission

E. Wiedenbeck,K. Wirth,Q. Zong +98 more
TL;DR: The Energetic Particle Detector (EPD) as discussed by the authors is an instrument suite that is part of the scientific payload aboard the Solar Orbiter mission, which is composed of four units: the SupraThermal Electrons and Protons (STEP), the Electron Proton Telescope (EPT), the Suprathermal Ion Spectrograph (SIS), and the High-Energy Telescope (HET).
Journal ArticleDOI
Large Solar Energetic Particle Events Associated with Filament Eruptions Outside of Active Regions
Natchimuthuk Gopalswamy,Pertti Makela,Sachiko Akiyama,S. Yashiro,Hong Xie,N. Thakur,Stephen W. Kahler +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors report on four large filament eruptions (FEs) from solar cycles 23 and 24 that were associated with large solar energetic particle (SEP) events and interplanetary type II radio bursts.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Quarter Century of Wind Spacecraft Discoveries
Lynn B. Wilson,Alexandra L. Brosius,Alexandra L. Brosius,Natchimuthuk Gopalswamy,Teresa Nieves-Chinchilla,Adam Szabo,Kevin Hurley,Tai Phan,Justin C. Kasper,Noé Lugaz,Ian G. Richardson,Ian G. Richardson,Christopher H. K. Chen,Daniel Verscharen,Daniel Verscharen,Robert T. Wicks,J. M. TenBarge,J. M. TenBarge +17 more
TL;DR: The Wind spacecraft is a critical element in NASA's Heliophysics System Observatory (HSO) as mentioned in this paper, a fleet of spacecraft created to understand the dynamics of the sun-Earth system.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coronal flux ropes and their interplanetary counterparts
Natchimuthuk Gopalswamy,Sachiko Akiyama,Sachiko Akiyama,Seiji Yashiro,Seiji Yashiro,Hong Xie,Hong Xie +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a study comparing coronal flux ropes inferred from eruption data with their interplanetary counterparts constructed from in situ data was conducted, and it was found that the CME magnetic field in the corona is significantly higher than the ambient magnetic field at a given heliocentric distance.
