Journal ArticleDOI
Distensibility index of the inferior vena cava in experimental acute respiratory distress syndrome.
Renata de S. Mendes,Milena V. Oliveira,Gisele A. Padilha,Raquel S. Santos,Nazareth N. Rocha,Nazareth N. Rocha,Ronir Raggio Luiz,Marcelo Gama de Abreu,Paolo Pelosi,P.R.M. Rocco,Pedro L. Silva +10 more
TL;DR: A dIVC threshold <25% was associated with positive response after volume expansion and could be used to titrate fluids in endotoxin-induced ARDS and was validated for use in rat models.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of a model for anemia of inflammation that is relevant to critical care.
Margit Boshuizen,Robin van Bruggen,Sebastian A. J. Zaat,Marcus J. Schultz,Eli Aguilera,Ana Motos,Tarek Senussi,Francesco Idone,Paolo Pelosi,Antoni Torres,Gianluigi Li Bassi,Nicole P. Juffermans +11 more
TL;DR: The development of an animal model for AI that can be applied to study the pathophysiology of AI in the critically ill and to investigate the effectivity and toxicity of new therapies that aim to increase iron availability is described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Speed of cooling after cardiac arrest in relation to the intervention effect: a sub-study from the TTM2-trial
Rupert Simpson,Josef Dankiewicz,Grigoris V. Karamasis,Paolo Pelosi,Matthias Haenggi,Paul J Young,Janus Christian Jakobsen,Jonathan Bannard-Smith,Pedro D. Wendel-García,Fabio Silvio Taccone,Per Nordberg,Matt P. Wise,Anders Morten Grejs,Gisela Lilja,Roy Bjørkholt Olsen,Alain Cariou,Jean-Baptiste Lascarrou,M Saxena,Jan Hovdenes,Matthew Thomas,Hans Friberg,John Davies,Niklas Nielsen,Thomas R. Keeble +23 more
TL;DR: In the TTM-2 trial, patients after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest were randomized to targeted hypothermia (33 °C), followed by controlled re-warming, or normothermia with early treatment of fever (body temperature, ≥ 37.8 °C) as discussed by the authors .
Journal ArticleDOI
Are height and weight estimates in ED patients reliable for setting the ventilator
Sabrine N.T. Hemmes,Lorenzo Ball,Ary Serpa Neto,Marcelo Gama de Abreu,Paolo Pelosi,Marcus J. Schultz +5 more
TL;DR: Given that a tidal volume of 8 cm/kg IBW is currently seen as ‘protective’ in patients with non– injured lungs, it is suggested that the authors recalculate the percentages and odds using this cutoff value, and allow better comparisons with ventilation practices in operation rooms and in intensive care units.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bone marrow-derived mononuclear cell therapy in sepsis-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome: different insults, different effects!
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the effects of transfused bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells on lung mechanics, inflammation and mortality might be different in different septic ARDS models due to different insults.
