Bounding the role of black carbon in the climate system: A scientific assessment

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provided an assessment of black-carbon climate forcing that is comprehensive in its inclusion of all known and relevant processes and that is quantitative in providing best estimates and uncertainties of the main forcing terms: direct solar absorption; influence on liquid, mixed phase, and ice clouds; and deposition on snow and ice.
Journal ArticleDOI

Air pollutant emissions from Chinese households: A major and underappreciated ambient pollution source.

TL;DR: It is found that dramatic improvements in air quality in Beijing would benefit substantially from reductions in residential emissions from regional controls in Tianjin and Hebei, indicating the value of policies at the regional level.

Valuing the health risks of particulate air pollution in the Pearl River Delta, China

TL;DR: In this article, the adverse health effects of particulate matter pollution in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) were estimated by using a log-linear exposure-response function, and monetized the morbidity effect by using the cost of illness (COI) method and the mortality effects by using both the amended human capital (AHC) method, and the results of contingent valuation (CV) study.
Journal ArticleDOI

Relaxing rural constraints: a ‘win-win’ policy for poverty and environment in China?

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluate the ability of the Sloping Lands Conversion Programme (SLCP) in China, a reforestation payments programme, to relax constraints on off-farm labour markets and achieve poverty alleviation and environmental goals.
