Journal ArticleDOI

Carcinoma-associated fibroblasts direct tumor progression of initiated human prostatic epithelium.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate that fibroblasts associated with carcinomas stimulate tumor progression of initiated nontumorigenic epithelial cells both in an in vivo tissue recombination system and in vitro coculture system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Role of the stromal microenvironment in carcinogenesis of the prostate.

TL;DR: The goal of this review will be to apply endocrinologic and developmental concepts to the understanding of normal and malignant prostatic growth to emphasize the role of the stromal microenvironment in the carcinogenic process.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cancer-associated fibroblasts promote directional cancer cell migration by aligning fibronectin

TL;DR: It is shown that fibronectin (Fn) assembled by CAFs mediates CAF–cancer cell association and directional migration, and it is demonstrated that aligned Fn is a prominent feature of invasion sites in human prostatic and pancreatic carcinoma samples.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cancer associated fibroblasts in cancer pathogenesis

TL;DR: Current trends in the study of the interactions between cancer stroma and tumor cells in different organs are addressed to highlight perceived knowledge gaps and suggest research areas that need to be further explored to provide new targets for anticancer therapies.
