Cecilie Svanes,Jordi Sunyer,Estel Plana,Shyamali C. Dharmage,Joachim Heinrich,Deborah Jarvis,R de Marco,Dan Norbäck,Chantal Raherison,Simona Villani,Matthias Wjst,Knut Svanes,Josep M. Antó +12 more
TL;DR: People with early life disadvantage have permanently lower lung function, no catch-up with age but a slightly larger decline in lung function and a substantially increased COPD risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exposure to substances in the workplace and new-onset asthma: an international prospective population-based study (ECRHS-II)
Manolis Kogevinas,Jan-Paul Zock,Deborah Jarvis,Hans Kromhout,Linnéa Lillienberg,Estel Plana,Katja Radon,Kjell Toren,Ada Alliksoo,Geza Benke,Paul D. Blanc,Anna Dahlman-Höglund,Angelo d’Errico,M. TL;DR: The increased risk of asthma after inhalation accidents suggests that workers who have such accidents should be monitored closely.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adult lung function and long-term air pollution exposure. ESCAPE: a multicentre cohort study and meta-analysis
Martin Adam,Martin Adam,Tamara Schikowski,Anne-Elie Carsin,Yutong Cai,Bénédicte Jacquemin,Margaux Sanchez,Andrea Vierkötter,Alessandro Marcon,Dirk Keidel,Dirk Keidel,Dorothee Sugiri,Zaina Al Kanani,Rachel Nadif,Valérie Siroux,Rebecca Hardy,Diana Kuh,Thierry Rochat,Pierre-Olivier Bridevaux,Marloes Eeftens,Marloes Eeftens,Marloes Eeftens,Ming-Yi Tsai,Ming-Yi Tsai,Simona Villani,Harish C. TL;DR: It is observed that a 10 μg·m−3 increase in NO2 exposure was associated with lower levels of FEV1, and this study adds to the evidence for an adverse association of ambient air pollution with lung function in adults at very low levels in Europe.
Journal ArticleDOI
Variation of NO2 and NOx concentrations between and within 36 European study areas: Results from the ESCAPE study
Josef Cyrys,Marloes Eeftens,Joachim Heinrich,Christophe Ampe,Alexandre Armengaud,Rob Beelen,Tom Bellander,Timea Beregszaszi,Matthias Birk,Giulia Cesaroni,Marta Cirach,Kees de Hoogh,Audrey de Nazelle,Frank de Vocht,Christophe Declercq,Audrius Dėdelė,Konstantina Dimakopoulou,Kirsten Thorup Eriksen,C Galassi,Regina Grąulevičienė,Georgios Grivas,Olena Gruzieva,Annika Hagenbjörk Gustafsson,Barbara Hoffmann,Minas Iakovides,Alex Ineichen,Alex Ineichen,Ursula Krämer,Timo Lanki,Patricia Lozano,Christian Madsen,Kees Meliefste,Lars Modig,Anna Mölter,Gioia Mosler,Mark J. TL;DR: The ESCAPE study as mentioned in this paper investigated the long-term effects of exposure to air pollution on human health in Europe and found significant contrasts in annual average NO2 and NOx concentrations between and especially within 36 study areas across Europe.
Journal ArticleDOI
The use of household cleaning sprays and adult asthma : an international longitudinal study
Jan-Paul Zock,Estel Plana,Deborah Jarvis,Josep M. Antó,Hans Kromhout,Susan M. Kennedy,Nino Künzli,Simona Villani,Mario Olivieri,Kjell Toren,Katja Radon,Jordi Sunyer,Anna Dahlman-Höglund,Dan Norbäck,Manolis Kogevinas +14 more
TL;DR: Frequent use of common household cleaning sprays may be an important risk factor for adult asthma.
