Journal ArticleDOI

The Norway spruce genome sequence and conifer genome evolution.

TL;DR: The draft assembly of the 20-gigabase genome of Norway spruce (Picea abies), the first available for any gymnosperm, is presented, revealing numerous long (>10,000 base pairs) introns, gene-like fragments, uncharacterized long non-coding RNAs and short RNAs, which opens up new genomic avenues for conifer forestry and breeding.
Journal ArticleDOI

De-Novo Transcriptome Sequencing of a Normalized cDNA Pool from Influenza Infected Ferrets

TL;DR: More than 19,000 partial ferret transcripts are identified, including more than 1000 gene orthologs known to be involved in the innate and the adaptive immune response, and normalization of the cDNA library removes the possibility of assessing expression changes between individual animals, and has been shown to increase identification of low abundant transcripts.
