IMPROVED SURVIVAL AFTER EARLY THROMBOLYSIS IN ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION: A Randomised Trial by the Interuniversity Cardiology Institute in The Netherlands
M. L. Simoons,d Brand,C. de Zwaan,Freek W.A. Verheugt,W. J. Remme,Patrick W. Serruys,F. W. A. Bär,Jan C.J. Res,X. H. Krauss,Frank Vermeer,Jacobus Lubsen +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, two strategies for treatment of acute myocardial infarction were compared in a randomised trial of 533 patients admitted within 4 h of the onset of symptoms, 264 patients were allocated to conventional treatment and 269 patients to a strategy aimed at rapid recanalisation of the occluded coronary artery.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preservation of global and regional left ventricular function after early thrombolysis in acute myocardial infarction
Patrick W. Serruys,Maarten L. Simoons,H. Suryapranata,Frank Vermeer,William Wijns,Marcel van den Brand,Frits W. Bär,Chris de Zwaan,X.Hanno Krauss,W. J. Remme,Jan C.J. Res,Freek W.A. Verheugt,Ronald van Domburg,Jacobus Lubsen,Paul G. Hugenholtz +14 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that improved regional and global left ventricular function can be achieved with early reperfusion and that this is the likely explanation for the reduction of early and late mortality after thrombolysis observed in this study.
Journal ArticleDOI
ACE inhibition with perindopril and endothelial function. Results of a substudy of the EUROPA study: PERTINENT
Claudio Ceconi,Kim Fox,W. J. Remme,M. L. Simoons,Michael Bertrand,Giovanni Parrinello,Cornelius Kluft,Andrew D. Blann,Dennis V. Cokkinos,Roberto Ferrari +9 more
TL;DR: Abnormal endothelial function occurs in patients with coronary artery disease, and this can be counteracted by angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition with perindopril.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pathophysiologic and therapeutic importance of tissue ACE: a consensus report.
Victor J. Dzau,Kenneth E. Bernstein,David S. Celermajer,Jerome D. Cohen,Björn Dahlöf,John E. Deanfield,Javier Díez,H.G. Drexler,Roberto Ferrari,W. H. Van Gilst,Lennart Hansson,Burkhard Hornig,Ahsan Husain,Colin I. Johnston,Harold L. Lazar,Eva Lonn,Thomas F. Lüscher,John Mancini,Albert Mimran,Carl J. Pepine,Ton J. Rabelink,W. J. Remme,Luis M. Ruilope,Marcel Ruzicka,Heribert Schunkert,Karl Swedberg,Thomas Unger,Douglas E. Vaughan,Michael A. Weber +28 more
TL;DR: Pharmacologic studies show that while ACE inhibitors may differ according to their binding affinity for tissue ACE the clinical significance remains to be determined, and that its inhibition may restore endothelial function or prevent endothelial dysfunction.
Journal ArticleDOI
The incidence and clinical predictors of ACE-inhibitor induced dry cough by perindopril in 27,492 patients with vascular disease
Jasper J. Brugts,Hisatomi Arima,W. J. Remme,Michel E. Bertrand,Roberto Ferrari,Kevin Fox,J. DiNicolantonio,Stephen MacMahon,John Chalmers,Felix Zijlstra,Kadir Caliskan,Maarten L. Simoons,Jean-Jacques Mourad,Eric Boersma,K. M. Akkerhuis +14 more
TL;DR: This large combined analysis of randomized clinical trials in 27,492 patients showed an overall lower incidence of cough leading to discontinuation of ACE-inhibitors (3.9%) as compared to literature.
