Journal ArticleDOI
Quantitation of HIV-1-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes and plasma load of viral RNA.
Graham S. Ogg,Xia Jin,Sebastian Bonhoeffer,P R Dunbar,Martin A. Nowak,Simon Monard,Jeremy P. Segal,Yunzhen Cao,Sarah Rowland-Jones,Vincenzo Cerundolo,Arlene Hurley,M. Markowitz,David D. Ho,Douglas F. Nixon,Andrew J. McMichael +14 more
TL;DR: With the use of the tetrameric complexes, a significant inverse correlation was observed between HIV-specific CTL frequency and plasma RNA viral load and suggest a considerable cytopathic effect of the virus in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dramatic rise in plasma viremia after CD8+ T cell depletion in simian immunodeficiency virus-infected macaques
Xia Jin,Daniel E. Bauer,Sarah Tuttleton,Sharon R Lewin,Agegnehu Gettie,James Blanchard,Craig E. Irwin,Jeffrey T. Safrit,John E. Mittler,Leor S. Weinberger,Leondios G. Kostrikis,Linqi Zhang,Alan S. Perelson,David D. Ho +13 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that CD8 cells play a crucial role in suppressing SIV replication in vivo and are examined using an anti-CD8 monoclonal antibody, OKT8F.
Journal ArticleDOI
The human cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) response to cytomegalovirus is dominated by structural protein pp65: frequency, specificity, and T-cell receptor usage of pp65-specific CTL.
Mark R. Wills,A. J. Carmichael,K. Mynard,Xia Jin,Michael P. Weekes,B. Plachter,J. G. P. Sissons +6 more
TL;DR: A limiting-dilution analysis system is used to quantify HCMV-specific CTL precursors with different specificities, allowing the antigenic specificity of multiple short-term CTL clones to be assessed, in a group of six healthy seropositive donors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantitative analysis of the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1)-specific cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) response at different stages of HIV-1 infection: differential CTL responses to HIV-1 and Epstein-Barr virus in late disease.
TL;DR: CTL precursors were detected against all three HIV-1 structural gene products in patients with CD4+ lymphocyte counts > 400/microliters, at frequencies that are high compared with those reported for other persistent viruses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Measuring recent thymic emigrants in blood of normal and HIV-1-infected individuals before and after effective therapy.
Linqi Zhang,Sharon R Lewin,Martin Markowitz,Hsi-Hsun Lin,Eva Skulsky,Rose Karanicolas,Yuxian He,Xia Jin,Sarah Tuttleton,Mika Vesanen,Hans M. L. Spiegel,Rhonda G. Kost,Jan van Lunzen,Hans-Juergen Stellbrink,Steven M. Wolinsky,William Borkowsky,Paul Palumbo,Leondios G. Kostrikis,David D. Ho +18 more
TL;DR: Overall, it is difficult to invoke thymic regenerative failure as a generalized mechanism for CD4 lymphocyte depletion in HIV-1 infection, as α1 circle numbers are normal in a substantial subset of HIV–1–infected individuals.
