No Surgical Innovation Without Evaluation: Evolution and Further Development of the IDEAL Framework and Recommendations
Allison Hirst,Yiannis Philippou,Jane M Blazeby,Bruce Campbell,Marion K Campbell,Joshua Feinberg,Maroeska M. Rovers,Natalie S Blencowe,Christopher Pennell,Tom Quinn,Wendy A Rogers,Jonathan Cook,Angelos G. Kolias,Riaz Agha,Philipp Dahm,Art Sedrakyan,Peter McCulloch +16 more
TL;DR: This article updates and extends the IDEAL Recommendations, identifies areas for future research, and discusses the ethical problems faced by investigators at each IDEAL stage, to widen the practical use of IDEAL.
Journal ArticleDOI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging-targeted Biopsy Versus Systematic Biopsy in the Detection of Prostate Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Veeru Kasivisvanathan,Armando Stabile,Armando Stabile,Joana B. Neves,Francesco Giganti,Francesco Giganti,Massimo Valerio,Yaalini Shanmugabavan,Keiran D. Clement,Debashis Sarkar,Yiannis Philippou,David Thurtle,Jonathan J Deeks,Jonathan J Deeks,Mark Emberton,Mark Emberton,Yemisi Takwoingi,Yemisi Takwoingi,Caroline M. Moore +18 more
TL;DR: MRI-TB is an attractive alternative diagnostic strategy to systematic biopsy for diagnosing prostate cancer and biopsies targeted to suspicious areas on magnetic resonance imaging were better at detecting prostate cancer that needs to be treated and avoiding the diagnosis of disease that does not need treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Progress in clinical research in surgery and IDEAL
Peter McCulloch,Joshua Feinberg,Yiannis Philippou,Angelos G. Kolias,Sean Kehoe,Gillian Lancaster,Jenny L Donovan,Tatjana Petrinic,Riaz Agha,Christopher Pennell +9 more
TL;DR: Apparent improvement in the use of standard outcome measures, adoption of Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) standards, and assessment of the quality of surgery and of learning curves are noted, but no progress in theUse of qualitative research or reporting of modifications during procedure development is noted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impacts of combining anti-PD-L1 immunotherapy and radiotherapy on the tumour immune microenvironment in a murine prostate cancer model.
Yiannis Philippou,Hanna T. Sjoberg,Emma J. Murphy,Said Alyacoubi,Keaton Jones,Alex Gordon-Weeks,Su M. Phyu,Eileen Parkes,W. Gillies McKenna,Alastair D. Lamb,Uzi Gileadi,Vincenzo Cerundolo,David A. Scheiblin,Stephen J. Lockett,David A. Wink,Ian G. Mills,Freddie C. Hamdy,Ruth J. Muschel,Richard J. Bryant +18 more
TL;DR: Adjuncts beyond immunomodulation may be necessary to improve the radiotherapy-induced anti-tumour response, and hypofractionated radiotherapy can result in tumour growth delay and immune cell changes in allograft prostate cancer models.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vaccines for the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections: a systematic review
Nikoo Aziminia,Marios Hadjipavlou,Yiannis Philippou,Shivkumar S. Pandian,Sachin Malde,Mohamed Y Hammadeh +5 more
TL;DR: To systematically review the evidence regarding the efficacy of vaccines or immunostimulants in reducing the recurrence rate of urinary tract infections, a large number of cases of UTIs are reported each year.
