TL;DR: The AlCl3-promoted [3 + 2]-annulations with aldehydes protocol provides a facile and highly stereoselective way to construct synthetically useful pentasubstituted tetrahydrofurans not easily accessible using other methods.
Abstract: A series of cis-2,3-disubstituted cyclopropane 1,1-diesters were examined in the AlCl3-promoted [3 + 2]-annulations with aldehydes. In this reaction, these cis-cyclopropanes displayed reactivities starkly different from their trans counterparts in terms of the high chemical yields (up to 98%) and provided the desired annulation products with excellent diastereomeric purity. This protocol provides a facile and highly stereoselective way to construct synthetically useful pentasubstituted tetrahydrofurans not easily accessible using other methods.

TL;DR: In this paper, a ratiometric electrochemical sensor for paracetamol (PR) was fabricated by successively electropolymerizing a layer of Prussian blue (PB) and a layer imprinted polypyrrole (MIP) on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode.
Abstract: The authors report on a ratiometric electrochemical sensor for paracetamol (PR) which was fabricated by successively electropolymerizing a layer of Prussian blue (PB) and a layer of molecularly imprinted polypyrrole (MIP) on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The binding of PR molecules to the MIP has two effects: The first is an increase of the oxidation current for PR at 0.42 V (vs. SCE), and the second is a decrease in the current for PB (at 0.18 V) due to partial blocking of the channels which results in reduced electron transmissivity. Both currents, and in particular their ratio, can serve as analytical information. Under optimized conditions, the sensor displays enhanced sensitivity for PR in the 1.0 nM to 0.1 mM concentration range and a 0.53 nM lower limit of detection. The sensor was applied to the determination of PR in tablets and urines where it gave recoveries in the range between 94.6 and 104.9 %. This dual-signal (ratiometric) detection scheme (using electropolymerized Prussian Blue and analyte-specific MIP) in our perception has a wide scope in that it may be applied to numerous other electroactive species for which specific MIP can be made available.

TL;DR: A sandwich-type LRET system that utilizes near-infrared (NIR)-to-NIR upconversion lanthanide nanophosphors (UCNPs) as the donor, and Au nanorods (Au NRs) asThe acceptor was developed for the detection of Hg(2+) ions that had high sensitivity and selectivity in the NIR region.
Abstract: A new luminescence resonant energy transfer (LRET) system has been designed that utilizes near-infrared (NIR)-to-NIR upconversion lanthanide nanophosphors (UCNPs) as the donor, and Au nanorods (Au NRs) as the acceptor. The UCNPs were excited by a near-infrared (980 nm) wavelength and also emitted at a near-infrared wavelength (804 nm) using an inexpensive infrared continuous wave laser diode. The Au NRs showed a high absorption band around 806 nm, which provided large spectral overlap between the donor and the acceptor. Hg2+ ions were added to an aqueous solution containing the UCNPs and Au NRs that were modified with a Hg2+ aptamer. Then, a sandwich-type LRET system was developed for the detection of Hg2+ ions that had high sensitivity and selectivity in the NIR region. The method was successfully applied to the sensing of Hg2+ ions in water and human serum samples.
