TL;DR: The results of factor analysis and correlation analysis indicated that Cu, Cr, Ni, Zn, and Co concentrations were mainly due to interior paint, metal objects, and building materials, while Pb and As concentrations were due to vehicle emissions.
Abstract: Zn, Pb, Cu, Cr, V, Ni, Co, and As concentrations of indoor dust in Anhui rural were determined by inductively coupled plasma–optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES). The degrees of metal pollution in indoor dust ranked as follows: Zn > Pb > Cr > Cu > V > Ni > Co > As, on average. The arithmetic means of Zn, Pb, Cu, Cr, V, Ni, Co, and As were 427.17, 348.73, 107.05, 113.68, 52.64, 38.93, 10.29, and 4.46 mg/kg, respectively. These were higher than background values of Anhui soil for Zn, Pb, Cu, Cr, and Ni, especially for Pb with the mean value of 13.21 times the background value. Heavy metal concentrations of indoor dust were different from different rural areas. House type (bungalows or storied house), sweeping frequency, and external environment around the house (such as the road grade) affected heavy metal concentrations in indoor dust. The results of factor analysis and correlation analysis indicated that Cu, Cr, Ni, Zn, and Co concentrations were mainly due to interior paint, metal objects, and building materials. Pb and As concentrations were due to vehicle emissions. V concentration was mainly of natural source. Average daily doses for the exposure pathway of the studied heavy metals decreased in children in the following order: hand-to-mouth ingestion > dermal contact > inhalation. The non-carcinogenic risks of heavy metals ranked as Pb > V > Cr > Cu > Zn > As > Co > Ni, and the carcinogenic risks of metals decreased in the order of Cr > Co > As > Ni. The non-carcinogenic hazard indexes and carcinogenic risks of metals in indoor dust were both lower than the safe values.

TL;DR: In this article, a cubic Prussian blue (PB) modified single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) nanocomposites using the mixture solution of ferric-(III) chloride and potassium ferricyanide under ambient conditions was synthesized.
Abstract: In this work, we synthesized electroactive cubic Prussian blue (PB) modified single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) nanocomposites using the mixture solution of ferric-(III) chloride and potassium ferricyanide under ambient conditions. The successful fabrication of the PB-SWNTs nanocomposites was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry (CV). PB nanocrystallites are observed to be finely attached on the SWNTs sidewalls in which the SWNTs not only act as a carrier of PB nanocrystallites but also as Fe(III)-reducer. The electrochemical properties of PB-SWNTs nanocomposites were also investigated. Using the electrodeposition technique, a thin film of PB-SWNTs/chitosan nanocomposites was prepared onto glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for the construction of a H2O2 sensor. PB-SWNTs/chitosan nanocomposites film shows enhanced electrocatalytic activity towards the reduction of H2O2 and the amperometric responses show a linear dependence on the concentration of H2O2 in a range of 0.5–27.5 mM and a low detection limit of 10 nM at the signal-to-noise ratio of 3. The time required to reach the 95% steady state response was less than 2 s. CV studies demonstrate that the modified electrode has outstanding stability. In addition, a glucose biosensor is further developed through the simple one-step electrodeposition method. The observed wide concentration range, high stability and high reproducibility of the PB-SWNTs/chitosan nanocomposites film make them promising for the reliable and durable detection of H2O2 and glucose.

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors developed an integrated remote sensing drought monitoring index (IRSDI), based on meteorological data for 2003-2013 from 40 meteorological stations and soil moisture data from 16 observatory stations, as well as MODIS data using a linear trend detection method, and standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI).
Abstract: Drought monitoring is critical for early warning of drought hazard. This study attempted to develop an integrated remote sensing drought monitoring index (IRSDI), based on meteorological data for 2003-2013 from 40 meteorological stations and soil moisture data from 16 observatory stations, as well as MODIS data using a linear trend detection method, and standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI). The objective was to investigate drought conditions across the Huai River basin in both space and time. Results indicate that: (1) the proposed IRSDI monitors and describes drought conditions across the Huai River basin reasonably well in both space and time; (2) frequency of drought and severe drought are observed during April-May and July-September. The northeastern and eastern parts of Huai River basin are dominated by frequent droughts and intensified drought events. These regions are dominated by dry croplands, grasslands and highly-dense population, and are hence more sensitive to drought hazards; (3) intensified droughts are detected during almost all months except January, August, October and December. Besides, significant intensification of droughts is discerned mainly in eastern and western Huai River basin. The duration and regions dominated by intensified drought events would be a challenge for water resources management in view of agricultural and other activities in these regions in a changing climate.

TL;DR: A hybrid FMEA framework integrating generalized TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese of Interactive and Multi-criteria Decision Making) method, Choquet integral and Shapley index is developed to remedy the gap between interactions between risk indicators and decision maker’s psychological behavior characteristics.
Abstract: Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) is considered as a proactive risk prevention and control technique that has been widely applied to identify, assess and eliminate the risk of failure modes i...
