Abstract: Background—Several reports indicate that physical activity can reduce the severity of symptoms in depressed patients. Some data suggest that even a single exercise bout may result in a substantial mood improvement. Objective—To evaluate the short term effects of a training programme on patients with moderate to severe major depression. Methods—Twelve patients (mean (SD) age 49 (10) years; five men, seven women) with a major depressive episode according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Society of Psychiatry (DSM IV) criteria participated. The mean (SD) duration of the depressive episode was 35 (21) weeks (range 12–96). Training consisted of walking on a treadmill following an interval training pattern and was carried out for 30 minutes a day for 10 days. Results—At the end of the training programme, there was a clinically relevant and statistically significant reduction in depression scores (Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression: before, 19.5 (3.3); after, 13 (5.5); p = 0.002. Self assessed intensity of symptoms: before, 23.2 (7); after, 17.7 (8.1); p = 0.006. Values are mean (SD)). Subjective and objective changes in depression scores correlated strongly (r = 0.66, p = 0.01). Conclusions—Aerobic exercise can produce substantial improvement in mood in patients with major depressive disorders in a short time. Abstract: In this paper, we describe how the BBC is working to integrate data and linking documents across BBC domains by using Semantic Web technology, in particular Linked Data, MusicBrainz and DBpedia. We cover the work of BBC Programmes and BBC Music building Linked Data sites for all music and programmes related brands, and we describe existing projects, ongoing development, and further research we are doing in a joint collaboration between the BBC, Freie Universitat Berlin and Rattle Research in order to use DBpedia as the controlled vocabulary and semantic backbone for the whole BBC.

Abstract: Two types of templates, an active metal salt and silica nanoparticles, are used concurrently to achieve the facile synthesis of hierarchical meso/microporous FeCo-Nx -carbon nanosheets (meso/micro-FeCo-Nx -CN) with highly dispersed metal sites. The resulting meso/micro-FeCo-Nx -CN shows high and reversible oxygen electrocatalytic performances for both ORR and OER, thus having potential for applications in rechargeable Zn-air battery. Our approach creates a new pathway to fabricate 2D meso/microporous structured carbon architectures for bifunctional oxygen electrodes in rechargeable Zn-air battery as well as opens avenues to the scale-up production of rationally designed heteroatom-doped catalytic materials for a broad range of applications.

Abstract: Motivation: Experimental techniques in proteomics have seen rapid development over the last few years. Volume and complexity of the data have both been growing at a similar rate. Accordingly, data management and analysis are one of the major challenges in proteomics. Flexible algorithms are required to handle changing experimental setups and to assist in developing and validating new methods. In order to facilitate these studies, it would be desirable to have a flexible 'toolbox' of versatile and user-friendly applications allowing for rapid construction of computational workflows in proteomics. Results: We describe a set of tools for proteomics data analysis---TOPP, The OpenMS Proteomics Pipeline. TOPP provides a set of computational tools which can be easily combined into analysis pipelines even by non-experts and can be used in proteomics workflows. These applications range from useful utilities (file format conversion, peak picking) over wrapper applications for known applications (e.g. Mascot) to completely new algorithmic techniques for data reduction and data analysis. We anticipate that TOPP will greatly facilitate rapid prototyping of proteomics data evaluation pipelines. As such, we describe the basic concepts and the current abilities of TOPP and illustrate these concepts in the context of two example applications: the identification of peptides from a raw dataset through database search and the complex analysis of a standard addition experiment for the absolute quantitation of biomarkers. The latter example demonstrates TOPP's ability to construct flexible analysis pipelines in support of complex experimental setups. Abstract: Background The atypical cells of nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin's disease, designated lymphocytic and histiocytic (L&H) cells, have a B-cell phenotype. To clarify the clonality of these cells, we studied rearranged immunoglobulin genes for the variable region of the heavy chain (V H genes) in individual L&H cells from 11 patients with nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin's disease. We also studied the expression of immunoglobulin light chains by those cells in six of the same patients. Methods Single CD20+ L&H cells were isolated from frozen sections by a technique of micromanipulation. The rearranged V H genes of these cells were amplified by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), sequenced, and compared with germ-line V H genes. Immunoglobulin light-chain messenger RNA (mRNA) was detected by in situ hybridization. Results Of 615 L&H cells isolated from all the frozen sections, 160 yielded PCR products.
