TL;DR: Two new phenylspirodrimane derivatives, stachy botrysin and stachybotrylactone B, were isolated from the cultures of the marine-derived fungus Stachybotrys sp.
Abstract: Two new phenylspirodrimane derivatives, stachybotrysin (1) and stachybotrylactone B (2), were isolated from the cultures of the marine-derived fungus Stachybotrys sp. KCB13F013. The structures were determined by analyzing the spectroscopic data (1D and 2D NMR and MS) and chemical transformation, including the modified Mosher’s method and single-crystal X-ray structure analysis. Compound 1 exhibited an inhibitory effect on osteoclast differentiation in bone marrow macrophage cells via suppressing the RANKL-induced activation of p-ERK, p-JNK, p-p38, c-Fos, and NFATc1.

TL;DR: This study presents the real space observation of one-dimensional skyrmion lattice in a NW of Fe1-xCoxSi which shows that the skyrMion phase in a Fe0.75Co0.25Si NW exists at lower applied magnetic fields with a reduced domain size in comparison to bulk and thin film samples.
Abstract: Magnetic skyrmions are topological spin textures that have shown promise for future nonvolatile memory devices. Herein, we report on the stability of magnetic skyrmions in alloyed cubic B20 Fe1–xCo...

TL;DR: An experimental setup to observe various spintronics functions such as spin transport and spin conversion is proposed and it is found that gapped edge states with helical spin structure are formed from Weyl fermions on the side surfaces under certain conditions.
Abstract: Three-dimensional topological insulators of finite thickness can show the quantum Hall effect (QHE) at the filling factor ν=0 under an external magnetic field if there is a finite potential difference between the top and bottom surfaces. We calculate energy spectra of surface Weyl fermions in the ν=0 QHE and find that gapped edge states with helical spin structure are formed from Weyl fermions on the side surfaces under certain conditions. These edge channels account for the nonlocal charge transport in the ν=0 QHE which is observed in a recent experiment on (Bi_{1-x}Sb_{x})_{2}Te_{3} films. The edge channels also support spin transport due to the spin-momentum locking. We propose an experimental setup to observe various spintronics functions such as spin transport and spin conversion.

TL;DR: In this article, the generalized fluctuation-dissipation theorem was used to determine the quantum Fisher information from linear-response functions, which are experimentally measurable quantities on the space of quantum states and places the fundamental limit on the accuracy of quantum state estimation.
Abstract: The quantum Fisher information represents a continuous family of metrics on the space of quantum states and places the fundamental limit on the accuracy of quantum state estimation. We show that the entire family of quantum Fisher information can be determined from linear-response theory through generalized covariances. We derive the generalized fluctuation-dissipation theorem that relates linear-response functions to generalized covariances and hence allows us to determine the quantum Fisher information from linear-response functions, which are experimentally measurable quantities. As an application, we examine the skew information, which is a quantum Fisher information, of a harmonic oscillator in thermal equilibrium, and show that the equality of the skew-information-based uncertainty relation holds.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of hole-doping on the layered dichalcogenide with a multivalley band structure was investigated and a partial substitution of Te for its lighter counterpart Se was proposed.
Abstract: We present a study on the modification of the electronic structure and hole-doping effect for the layered dichalcogenide ${\mathrm{WSe}}_{2}$ with a multivalley band structure, where Ta is doped on the W site along with a partial substitution of Te for its lighter counterpart Se. By means of band-structure calculations and specific-heat measurements, the introduction of Te is theoretically and experimentally found to change the electronic states in ${\mathrm{WSe}}_{2}$. While in ${\mathrm{WSe}}_{2}$ the valence-band maximum is located at the $\ensuremath{\Gamma}$ point, the introduction of Te raises the bands at the $K$ point with respect to the $\ensuremath{\Gamma}$ point. In addition, thermal-transport measurements reveal a smaller thermal conductivity at room temperature of ${\mathrm{W}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Ta}}_{x}{\mathrm{Se}}_{1.6}{\mathrm{Te}}_{0.4}$ than reported for ${\mathrm{W}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Ta}}_{x}{\mathrm{Se}}_{2}$. However, when approaching 900 K, the thermal conductivities of both systems converge while the resistivity in ${\mathrm{W}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Ta}}_{x}{\mathrm{Se}}_{1.6}{\mathrm{Te}}_{0.4}$ is larger than in ${\mathrm{W}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Ta}}_{x}{\mathrm{Se}}_{2}$, leading to comparable but slightly smaller values of the figure of merit in ${\mathrm{W}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Ta}}_{x}{\mathrm{Se}}_{1.6}{\mathrm{Te}}_{0.4}$.
