Abstract: A search is performed for electroweak production of a vector-like top quark partner T of charge 2/3 in association with a top or bottom quark, using proton-proton collision data at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The search targets T quarks over a wide range of masses and fractional widths, decaying to a top quark and either a Higgs boson or a Z boson in fully hadronic final states. The search is performed using two experimentally distinct signatures that depend on whether or not each quark from the decays of the top quark, Higgs boson, or Z boson produces an individual resolved jet. Jet substructure, b tagging, and kinematic variables are used to identify the top quark and boson jets, and also to suppress the standard model backgrounds. The data are found to be consistent with the expected backgrounds. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the cross sections for T quark-mediated production of tHQq, tZQq, and their sum, where Q is the associated top or bottom heavy quark and q is another associated quark. The limits are given for each search signature for various T quark widths up to 30% of the T quark mass, and are between 2 pb and 20 fb for T quark masses in the range 0.6–2.6 TeV. These results are significantly more sensitive than prior searches for electroweak single production of T → tH and represent the first constraints on T → tZ using hadronic decays of the Z boson with this production mode.

Abstract: We argue that the success of the Internet of Things (IoT) vision will greatly depend on how its main ingredient—the “thing”—is architected and prepared to engage. The IoT’s fragmented and wide-varying nature introduces the need for additional effort to homogenize these things so they may blend together with the surrounding space to create opportunities for powerful and unprecedented IoT applications. We introduce the IoT Device Description Language (IoT-DDL), a machine- and human-readable descriptive language for things, seeking to achieve such integration and homogenization. IoT-DDL explicitly tools things to self-discover and securely share their own capabilities, entities, and services, including the various cloud-based accessories that may be attached to them. We also present the Atlas thing architecture—a lightweight architecture for things that fully exploits IoT-DDL and its specifications. Our architecture provides new OS layers, services, and capabilities we believe a thing must have in order to be prepared to engage in IoT scenarios and applications. The architecture and IoT-DDL enable things to generate their offered services and self-formulate APIs for such services, on the fly, at power-on or whenever a thing description changes. The architecture takes advantage of widely used device management, micro-services, security, and communication standards and protocols. We present details of IoT-DDL and corresponding parts of the thing architecture. We demonstrate some features of IoT-DDL and the architecture through proof-of-concept implementations. Finally, we present a benchmarking study to measure and assess time performance and energy consumption characteristics of our architecture and IoT-DDL on real hardware platforms.

Abstract: Multihollow cross-linked poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) microcapsules were produced by water-in-oil-in-water emulsion polymerization and their applicability to encapsulate water-soluble ingredients was evaluated. In the microscopic analysis, all the PMMA microcapsules showed multihollow structures. In order to evaluate the entrapment efficacy, continuously, a water-soluble ingredient (monosodium phosphate, MSP) was incorporated into the inner voids of the microcapsules, and then its releasing profiles were measured with the storage conditions in pure water. In the releasing test, it was observed that the degree of cross-linking of PMMA had a significant influence on the migration of MSP through the polymer phase. At a sufficient degree of cross-linking of the polymer phase, the leakage of MSP out of the microcapsules was stopped successfully. It is believed that the extremely small network size and the mechanically strong network structure hindered effectively the water flow caused by the concentration gradient between water-soluble ingredients.

Abstract: The modern marketing environment involves variability and randomness within the numerous parties of any supply chain network. Thus, formation of a supply chain model including multiple buyers and variable production rate is more acceptable than assuming a single-buyer with constant production rate model. This paper considers a supply chain network, where a single-vendor manufactures products in a batch production process and supplies them to a set of buyers over multiple times. Instead of assuming a fixed production rate, as commonly used in the literature, a variable production rate is introduced by the vendor and the production cost of the vendor is treated as a function of production rate. The continuous review inventory model is applied for multiple buyers to inspect inventory levels and a crashing cost is incurred by all buyers to reduce their lead times. The lead time demand follows a normal distribution. The unsatisfied demands at the buyers end are partially backordered. A model is formulated to minimize the joint expected cost of the vendor-buyers supply chain system. A classical optimization technique is utilized to solve the model. An improved algorithm is developed to obtain the numerical solution of the model. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the model.
