TL;DR: In this paper, the first investigation of a radiation detector made of a diamond single crystal grown by a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method was successfully carried out, which had high-energy resolution of 0.4% for 5.486 MeV α particles from an 241 Am source.
Abstract: The first investigation of a radiation detector made of a diamond single crystal grown by a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method was successfully carried out. The diamond single crystal, having a size of 2.0×2.0×0.7 mm 3 , was grown by the CVD method and then applied to the detector. The CVD method was able to reduce nitrogen and boron impurities in diamond crystals more effectively than a high-pressure and high-temperature (HP/HT) method. Consequently the detector had high-energy resolution of 0.4% for 5.486 MeV α particles from an 241 Am source. The behavior of charge carriers in the detector could not be adequately investigated because the detector had a partial depression layer and strong rectification. Ionization energy of the CVD diamond was determined to be 16.1 eV; this value was higher than that of the HP/HT type IIa diamond, i.e., 13.1 eV. This result shows the potential of CVD diamond single crystals because an ideal diamond should have higher ionization energy than the HP/HT type IIa diamond that had the influence of impurities.

TL;DR: The theoretical excitation functions for the No-Carrier-added 186W(p,n)186Re reaction were calculated using the ALICE code as discussed by the authors, and the experimental and theoretical results were in good agreement.
Abstract: No-Carrier-Added186Re was produced using the186W(p,n)186Re nuclear reaction with 13.6 MeV protons on thick targets of 99.79% isotopically enriched186WO3. The theoretical excitation functions for producing186Re, and possible radionuclidic impurities of182Re,183Re, and184Re were calculated using the ALICE code. Cross-sections of the186W(p,n)186Re reaction were measured up to 20 MeV using the stacked target method with thin foils of natural composition tungsten metal. The experimental and theoretical excitation functions were in good agreement. Targetry used at the TIARA cyclotron, and a radiochemical separation scheme for186Re are described.

TL;DR: In this article, toroidicity induced Alfven eigenmodes (TAEs) with frequencies in the range of 90 to 110 kHz and toroidal mode numbers n = 5-8 were observed after a broadening of the density profile due to sequential partial collapses during ion cyclotron range of frequency (ICRF) heating.
Abstract: On JT-60U, for the first time in negative shear plasmas, toroidicity induced Alfven eigenmodes (TAEs) with frequencies in the range of 90 to 110 kHz and toroidal mode numbers n = 5-8 were observed after a broadening of the density profile due to sequential partial collapses during ion cyclotron range of frequency (ICRF) heating. TAEs are more stable in negative shear plasmas than plasmas with a monotonically increasing q profile. The TAE stability was analysed with the NOVA-K code. It was found that the stability is highly sensitive to the gap alignment just inside qmin and that the theoretical results are consistent with the experimental results. In a weak central magnetic shear discharge, modes with very rapid frequency chirping were observed during ICRF heating. The frequencies of these modes rapidly increased from ~30 kHz up to ~110 kHz in a period of ~150 ms. The large frequency chirping is not well understood by the present theory.
