TL;DR: In this paper, the alpha decay half-life for ground state to ground state transitions of 174 even-even alpha emitters has been calculated from a simple, Gamow-like model in which the quadrupole deformation of the product nucleus (assumed to have an ellipsoidal shape) is taken into account.
Abstract: Alpha decay half-life for ground-state to ground-state transitions of 174 even-even alpha emitters has been calculated from a simple, Gamow-like model in which the quadrupole deformation of the product nucleus (assumed to have an ellipsoidal shape) is taken into account. The assumption made is that before tunnelling through a purely Coulomb potential barrier the two-body system oscillates isotropically, thus giving rise to an equivalent, average polar direction θ0 (referred to the symmetry axis of the ellipsoid) for alpha emission. It is shown that the experimental half-life data are much better reproduced by the present description than in the spherical shaped approximation for the daughter nucleus.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluate one-pot synthesized carbon-supported Pt nanoparticles with preferential Pt(100) orientation prepared with an environmentally friendly shape-directing agent and compare this with Pt/C polycrystalline towards CO, methanol and ethanol electrooxidation reactions.

TL;DR: In this article, a diode-side-pumped and passively Q-switched Nd:YLiF4 (YLF) laser operating at 1053 nm using a new laser resonator concept was reported.
Abstract: This work reports a diode-side-pumped and passively Q-switched Nd:YLiF4 (YLF) laser operating at 1053 nm using a new laser resonator concept. Very stable pulses of 1 mJ energy with less than 10 ns pulse duration are obtained at 1 kHz repetition rate in a very simple, compact, and robust cavity that uses a double bounce configuration to achieve TEM00 operation.
