TL;DR: Instrumental neutron activation analysis was used to measure concentrations of elements in hair samples from a group of patients of a medical clinic and from a control group, and comparisons were made between the results obtained for these two groups of individuals.
Abstract: Instrumental neutron activation analysis was used to measure concentrations of elements in hair samples from a group of patients of a medical clinic and from a control group. Elements Al, As, Br, Ca, Cd, Cl, Co, Cu, Fe, Hg, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Sb, Sc, Se, V and Zn were analyzed and comparisons were made between the results obtained for these two groups of individuals. Normal ranges for elemental hair by commercial laboratories are also presented, for comparison, with those results obtained for the control group of individuals living in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Precision and accuracy of the results were evaluated by analyzing NIES No. 5 Human Hair and SHINR GBW09101 Human Hair reference materials.

TL;DR: In this article, an analysis of thermoluminescence (TL) and thermally stimulated exoelectron emission has proved that the natural Brazilian topaz is a promising material for dosimetry of ionizing radiation.
Abstract: Analyses of thermoluminescence (TL) and thermally stimulated exoelectron emission have proved that the natural Brazilian topaz is a promising material for dosimetry of ionizing radiation. Topaz is an aluminum fluorosilicate with a general composition of Al 2 (SiO 4 )(F,OH) 2 whose main defect is the presence of OH − groups substituting for the F − ions. Analyses of topaz samples from Santo Antonio do Jacinto, MG, Brazil, showed that their TL responses are strongly affected by the temperature of pre-irradiation thermal treatment. This behavior was correlated to the changes observed in the infrared and Raman spectra and a model could be proposed for the charge trapping and recombination process in colourless topaz.

TL;DR: It was demonstrated, by means of a biokinetical approach, that the long‐term accumulation of uranium in bone and marrow could be described by a piling up of single dose daily incorporation.
Abstract: The accumulation and microdistribution of uranium in the bone and marrow of Beagle dogs were determined by both neutron activation and neutron‐fission analysis. The experiment started immediately a...
