TL;DR: For L the Laplacian, it was discovered by [BG] in 1984 that positive solutions may not exist if V is too singular, and as mentioned in this paper used Gaussian estimates to extend this result to the case when L is not symmetric.
Abstract: For L a second order linear elliptic differential operator on $${\mathbb{R}}^N$$ , one is usually interested in finding positive solutions of the heat equation $$\frac{\partial u}{\partial {t}}=Lu+Vu,$$ where V is a nonnegative potential. But for L the Laplacian, it was discovered by [BG] in 1984 that positive solutions may not exist if V is too singular. We use Gaussian estimates to extend this result to the case when L is not symmetric.

TL;DR: This paper investigated the relationship between self-reported delinquency and official involvement with the law and found that self-perception, the containment variable receiving the most attention in the past, was much less related to delinquency than were other containment variables.
Abstract: All seven variables of Containment theory were operationalized in order to examine which combination of them related best to self-reported delinquency and to official involvement with the law. The data, from questionnaires administered in four high schools and three correctional institutions in Oklahoma, revealed stronger relationships with self-reported delinquency than with official involvementfor both males and females. While internalization of rules accounted for the most variation in delinquency among high school students, frustration tolerance was most related to delinquency among institutionalized students. Self-perception, the containment variable receiving the most attention in the past, was much less related to delinquency than were the other containment variables.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors extended their study to include more recent, relatively calm market years and found that the autocorrelation between overnight and intraday returns persisted among smaller stocks, but not for the S&P500.
Abstract: In an effort to extend our study on the relationship between overnight and intraday returns, we expand the study horizon to include more recent, relatively “calm” market years. We find that the autocorrelation between overnight and intraday returns persisted among smaller stocks, but not for the S&P500. Such a relationship is monotonic in nature – the stronger the overnight return, the further the opposite direction of the intraday return tends to be. We also find evidence that the market has indeed become less volatile in recent years, and the market factor plays a more significant role in stock returns.

TL;DR: The authors investigates how differing pressures on the Broadway musical theater industry can contribute to certain vocal stylistic choices and brings into relief how vocal training in such programs ensures a sonic conformity, which presumably improves the marketability of the performer in an industry demanding predictable sounds.
Abstract: This chapter investigates how differing pressures on the Broadway musical theater industry can contribute to certain vocal stylistic choices. The author considers the ways in which collegiate and professional training programs have responded to these needs through their musical theater curricula. The chapter brings into relief how vocal training in such programs ensures a sonic conformity, which presumably improves the marketability of the performer in an industry demanding predictable sounds. Specifically, it considers the pedagogical philosophies prevalent in Midwestern musical theater training programs where the author has worked as a vocal coach and where many Broadway performers cut their teeth. The chapter takes no position for or against the vocal ideas taught in these or other musical theater training programs, but makes some observations for the unique demands attached to such training and what demands those pressures make on singers today. Furthermore, the chapter suggests that the growth of the Broadway musical as a tourist attraction, the rise of the megamusical, and the formation of this Broadway sound are all interrelated phenomena enabled by a new corporatizing ideology in musical theater that has disciplined the body of the Broadway performer for decades and continues to shape the industry’s sound today.

TL;DR: The vascular floras of gypsum and redbed soils in southwestern Oklahoma were collected and studied during the growing season (April-October) of 1975 as mentioned in this paper, and a total of 359 taxa and 230 genera and 63 families were included in the study.
Abstract: The vascular floras of gypsum and redbed soils in southwestern Oklahoma were collected and studied during the growing season (April-October) of 1975. A total of 359 taxa and 230 genera and 63 families were included in the study. Thirteen taxa are considered to be gypsophiles and indicators of gypsum soils in Oklahoma. Nine taxa are considered calicoles occurring only on gypsum and limestone derived soils. Two introduced species, Bromus catharticus Vahl (syn. = Bromus willdenowii) and Caesalpinia gilliesii, are believed to be new additions to Oklahoma’s flora. Editor’s note: The abstract and a brief summary of this thesis was published as “Floristic Components of the Gypsum Hills and Redbed Plains Area of Southwestern Oklahoma” in The Southwestern Naturalist 24(3):431- 437 September 15, 1979 and is included here by permission.
