TL;DR: In this paper, a model for analyzing the reliability of a clockless wave pipeline as an IP core for embedded design is presented, and the effect of the so-called out-of-orchestration between the datawaves and the request signals is proposed in the reliability analysis.
Abstract: This paper presents a model for analyzing the reliability of a clockless wave pipeline as an intellectual property (IP) core for embedded design. This design requires different clocking requirements by each embedded IP core during integration. Therefore, either partial or global lack of synchronization of the embedded clocking is considered for the data flow. The clockless wave pipeline represents an alternative to a traditional pipeline scheme; it requires an innovative computing model that is readily suitable for high-throughput computing by heterogeneous IP logic cores embedded in system-on-chip (SoC). A clockless wave pipeline technique relies on local asynchronous operation for seamless integration of a combinational core into an SoC. The basic computational components of a clockless wave pipeline are the datawaves, together with the request signals and switches. The coordination of the processing of the datawaves throughout the pipeline by the request signals is accomplished with no intermediate access in the clock control. Furthermore, the reliability of clockless-wave-pipeline-based cores is of importance when designing a reliable SOC. In this paper, the reliability in the clockless operations of the wave pipeline is analyzed by considering the datawaves and the request signals. The effect of the so-called out-of-orchestration between the datawaves and the request signals (which is referred to as a datawave fault) is proposed in the reliability analysis. A clockless-induced datawave fault model is proposed for clockless fault-tolerant design.

TL;DR: The structure of diagnosis and the structure of literary narrative in detective stories are examined and the logic of “abduction” or “inference to the best explanation” as described by philosophers is focused on.
Abstract: This chapter examines the structure of diagnosis and the structure of literary narrative in detective stories; it focuses on the logic of “abduction” or “inference to the best explanation” as described by philosophers. Although diagnosis is an important part of healthcare training, its most usual training method is through apprenticeship. This chapter outlines a systematic method of diagnosis and traces it through an analysis of a Sherlock Holmes story, “The Resident Patient.” Dr. Arthur Conan Doyle modeled his character Sherlock Holmes on one of his teachers in medical school. The chapter begins with a vignette of a Resident, who, failing to diagnosis his patient, learns from his experienced Attending Physician, who reasons much like Holmes.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated potential consumer responses to the display of the Christian fish symbol (Ichthus) used in mock advertisements of services high in credence, experience and search attributes.
Abstract: This study investigated potential consumer responses to the display of the Christian fish symbol (Ichthus) used in mock advertisements of services high in credence, experience and search attributes. Discussions from earlier research propose consumers may exhibit different reactions to Christian symbolism displayed in the marketplace and that purchase intentions and consumer perceptions of the seller may be influenced by the strength of the consumer's religious beliefs. This study adds to previous research proposing consumers display different purchase intentions due to differing perceptions of the seller's credibility, trustworthiness and expertise influenced by the consumers own religious beliefs which is influenced by the type of service context.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the NASA yearly budget along with the time variable to model their relationship with spacecraft lifespans and compared the level of fit of their model with an exponential (generalized Moore's law) model.
Abstract: This paper develops a novel approach to modeling and predicting advancement in spacecraft technology for deep space exploration. As spacecraft lifetimes increase, ever more elaborate missions and even quasi-permanent bases become more and more possible. We use the NASA (National Aeronautical and Space Agency) yearly budget along with the time variable to model their relationship with spacecraft lifespans and compare the level of fit of our model with an exponential (generalized Moore's law) model. The results indicate that our model provides a better curve fit, suggesting the usefulness of NASA’s budget in predicting the progression of space exploration technology. Additionally, the evidence that the NASA budget has a statistically significant impact on spacecraft lifespans suggests that the government could increase future funding of NASA to foster quicker technological improvement in space exploration technology.
