TL;DR: In this article, a real-time PCR-based strategy for the detection of Paenibacillus larvae vegetative cells and spores to improve the diagnosis and the screening of American foulbrood (AFB), the most harmful pathology of honeybee brood.
Abstract: Aim: To develop a real-time PCR-based strategy for the detection of Paenibacillus larvae vegetative cells and spores to improve the diagnosis and the screening of American foulbrood (AFB), the most harmful pathology of honeybee brood. Methods and Results: A real-time PCR that allowed selective identification and quantification of P. larvae 16S rRNA sequence was developed. Using standard samples quantified by flow cytometry, detection limits of 37·5 vegetative cells ml−1 and 10 spores ml−1 were determined. Compared to spread plate method, this real-time PCR-based strategy allowed, in only 2 h, the detection of P. larvae in contaminated honeys. No false-positive results were obtained. Moreover, its detection limit was 100 times lower than that of the culture method (2 vs 200 spores g−1 of honey). Conclusion: A rapid, selective, with low detection limit, sensitive and specific method to detect and quantify vegetative cells and spores of P. larvae is now available. Significance and Impact of Study: In addition to honey samples, this real-time PCR-based strategy may be also applied to confirm AFB diagnosis in honeybee brood and to screen other apiary supplies and products (bees, pollen, wax), thus broadening the control of AFB spreading.

TL;DR: In this article, the impact on businesses in Chile of the Seed Capital Program (SCP) implemented by Chile’s Technical Cooperation Services is analyzed, and the results show that participation in the program has no incidence on the probability of later obtaining financing.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact on businesses in Chile of the Seed Capital Program (SCP) implemented by Chile’s Technical Cooperation Services. Design/methodology/approach – In order to analyze the impact of this SCP, a counter-factual scenario was used that entailed a combination of the propensity score matching with difference in difference methods. A total of 682 businesses were surveyed (378 in the treatment group and the rest in the control group), 164 of which gave complete responses to the surveys, 89 belonging to the treatment group and 75 to the control group. Findings – The results are mixed. On the one hand, the impact of sales is positive but its statistical significance depends on the model used. With regard to the number of employees, however, the results are positive and statistically significant regardless of the model used. The results also show that participating in the program has no incidence on the probability of later obtaining financing. Research limitat...

TL;DR: A uniform definition of tumor centrality is currently lacking, and should be formulated, and studies using objective measurements that evaluate the ability of these different definitions of central lung tumors to predict N2 disease are needed.
Abstract: Rationale: Accurate mediastinal staging is a cornerstone in the management of patients with lung cancer. For patients with radiographically normal mediastinum, current lung cancer guidelines recomm...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors determine the contribucion of autoestima, impulsividad, cohesion familiar, adaptabilidad familiar, apoyo social, and apojo social in the prediccion of suicidalidad in adolescentes.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors define and characterise the concepts of teachers' identity and self together with critical incident, which is optimum to reach the teacher's self, and present a descriptive case study dealing with the relationships between the identity and Self of two university teachers.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is two-fold: on the one hand, our aim is to expand the conceptual frame on which the notion of strategic lecturer is based in order to make it more explicative and to help understand teachers’ difficulties when they must face conflictive and unsettling situations at different levels (conceptual, strategic and emotional). In the first part we define and characterise the concepts of teachers’ identity and self together with critical incident, which is optimum to reach the teacher’s self. In the second part, we present a descriptive case study dealing with the relationships between the identity and self of two university teachers. The results obtained in this study demonstrate the existing level of coherence between the characteristics of the teacher’s identity and his/her real teaching performance (self). On the other hand, the study presents evidence on how teachers act when faced with critical incidents and how they change to adjust to the conflict situation. Finally, we address the potential and limitations of using critical incidents as a methodological research tool in this study field and in teacher training.
