TL;DR: The study indicated that children perceived their personal characteristics to be related to their occupational aspirations, however, how this matching takes place is not adequately accounted for in terms of a career theory such as that of Holland.
Abstract: The present exploratory-descriptive cross-national study focused on the career development of 11- to 14-yr.-old children, in particular whether they can match their personal characteristics with their occupational aspirations. Further, the study explored whether their matching may be explained in terms of a fit between person and environment using Holland's theory as an example. Participants included 511 South African and 372 Australian children. Findings relate to two items of the Revised Career Awareness Survey that require children to relate personal-social knowledge to their favorite occupation. Data were analyzed in three stages using descriptive statistics, i.e., mean scores, frequencies, and percentage agreement. The study indicated that children perceived their personal characteristics to be related to their occupational aspirations. However, how this matching takes place is not adequately accounted for in terms of a career theory such as that of Holland.

TL;DR: The sheltered shore supported more macrofauna species than the exposed shore, mainly owing to greater habitat heterogeneity; of 88 species recorded, 40 (46%) were shared and species warranting further study are listed.
Abstract: The distribution and biomass of macrofauna and macroalgae is described for two intertidal rocky shores near Port Elizabeth. The sheltered shore supported more macrofauna species (67) than the exposed shore (61), mainly owing to greater habitat heterogeneity; of 88 species recorded, 40 (46%) were shared. The shores had 13 and 23 macroalgal species respectively, with 9 shared. Ash-free dry biomass averaged 26 g m -2 over 200 m on the sheltered shore and 56 g m -2 over 80 m on the exposed shore for macrofauna and 81 g m -2 and 77 g m -2 for the algae. Lower animal biomass values on the sheltered shore may partly have been due to exploitation. Macrobenthic biomass was partitioned as follows on the sheltered and exposed shores respectively: grazers 86% and 82%, filter feeders 8% and 13%, carnivores 4% and 5% and deposit feeders 2% and 0%. Species warranting further study are listed.

TL;DR: High-density and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) stimulated 3T3-L1 and human preadipocyte differentiation in vitro and suppressed the development of catecholamine-stimulated lipolysis in differentiating 3T 3-L 1 and humanpreadipocytes when present during preadendipocyte proliferation and early stages of differentiation.
Abstract: High-density and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) stimulated 3T3-L1 and human preadipocyte differentiation in vitro . In both cell types, LDL exhibited the greatest stimulatory effect. LDL suppressed the development of catecholamine-stimulated lipolysis in differentiating 3T3-L1 and human preadipocytes when present during preadipocyte proliferation and early stages of differentiation. The effect of lipoproteins on develop ment of human preadipocyte (but not 3T3-L1) lipolysis may involve β -adrenoceptors.

TL;DR: In this paper, the reaction of ZnO and tetramethylthiuram disulfide (TMTD) was investigated in detail, and it was shown that TMTD and an excess of ZNO can produce bis(dimethyldithiocarbamato)zinc(II) (ZDMC) in limiting amounts close to 60 mol %.
Abstract: The reaction of ZnO and tetramethylthiuram disulfide (TMTD) was reinvestigated in detail. Under conditions where evaporation of volatiles is possible, TMTD and an excess of ZnO are found to produce bis(dimethyldithiocarbamato)zinc(II) (ZDMC) in limiting amounts close to 60 mol %, irrespective of the ratio between ZnO and TMTD. This result points to the operation of more than one route toward ZDMC. When ZnO and TMTD are reacted in closed vessels in inert atmosphere, a nucleophilic reaction of ZnO with TMTD was confirmed by GC–mass spectroscopy (MS) detection of COS and NMR observation of tetramethylthiourea (TMTU). This route is found to account for about 70 mol % of the total amount of ZDMC formed. A previously unrecognized redox reaction between ZnO, sulfur, and TMTD, furnishing ZnSO4 and ZDMC, is responsible for approximately 15 mol % of the amount of ZDMC. Other products that were detected are CO2, CS2, and tetramethylurea, whereas ZnSO3, ZnS, and dioxygen were absent. Based on the latter observation, the operation of a mechanism constituting radical reduction of water by TMTD, yielding dioxygen, was excluded. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
