TL;DR: In this paper, a model of the behavior of a number of competing firms producing functionally similar products is presented, where each firm searches for new routines and new combinations of the routines, i.e., technical and organizational ideas and skills associated with a particular economic context.
Abstract: A model is presented of the behavior of a number of competing firms producing functionally similar products. Each firm searches for new routines and new combinations of the routines, i.e. ‘technical and organizational ideas and skills associated with a particular economic context’. Decisions of a firm related to investment, modernization of production, price, etc. are based on the firm's evaluation of the behavior of other competing firms and the expected response of the market. Firms search for new combinations of routines in order to minimize the unit cost of production, maximize the productivity of capital, and maximize the competitiveness of their products in the market. Results of simulation of the model concerning investigation of price setting procedures, and long- and short-term firms' objectives are presented.

Abstract: Interface states may affect the voltage-capacitance characteristics of metal-semiconductor junctions causing a bending of the (measured) I C 2 vs reverse bias. This nonideal plot can be transformed into a linear C vs (V 0 − V) − 1 2 plot making possible extraction of some interface parameters.

TL;DR: The wild-type strain of Pseudomonas fluorescens was found to utilize a range of structurally diverse organophosphonates as its sole carbon or nitrogen sources.
Abstract: The wild-type strain of Pseudomonas fluorescens was found to utilize a range of structurally diverse organophosphonates as its sole carbon or nitrogen sources. Representative compounds included aminoalkylphosphonates, hydroxyalkylphosphonates, oxoalkylphosphonates, and phosphono dipeptides. Among them, amino(phenyl)methylphosphonate,2-aminoethylphosphonate, aminomethylphosphonate, diisopropyl 9-aminofluoren-9-ylphosphonate, and 2-oxoalkylphosphonates were used by P. fluorescens as its sole sources of phosphorus. Only slight growth was observed on the herbicide glyphosate (N-phosphonomethylglycine), which was metabolized to aminomethylphosphonate. Neither phosphinothricin nor its dialanyl tripeptide, bialaphos, supported growth of P. fluorescens. The possible mechanisms of organophosphonate degradation by this strain are discussed.

TL;DR: Utilization of organophosphonates as the sole source of phosphorus, carbon or nitrogen by a soil isolate of Penicillium citrinum was studied and it was found that the mould did not metabolize any of the phosphonates tested, when they served as the only carbon ornitrogen source.
Abstract: Utilization of organophosphonates as the sole source of phosphorus, carbon or nitrogen by a soil isolate of Penicillium citrinum was studied. Penicillium citrinum was found to utilize 2-aminoethylphosphonic and 2-oxoalkylphosphonic acids as the sole phosphorus source whereas 1-hydroxyalkylphosphonates as well as 1-aminoalkylphosphonates and their dipeptides did not support the growth of the fungus. The mould did not metabolize any of the phosphonates tested, when they served as the sole carbon or nitrogen source. Penicillium citrinum is perhaps the first mould strain isolated from soil, shown to be capable of organophosphonate degradation.

TL;DR: In this article, acid-catalyzed reactions of long-chain aliphatic aldehydes (Ia-d) with 1,1,1-tris(hydroxymethyl)-ethane (II), 2n-alkyl-5-hydroxmethyl5-methyl-1,3-dioxane (IIIa)-d) were obtained, and they were reacted with SO3·pyridine complex in dry carbon tetrachloride solution, to obtain trisubstituted derivatives of 1,3diox
Abstract: In acid-catalyzed reactions of long-chain aliphatic aldehydes (Ia-d) (a,R=n-C5H11; b,R=n-C7H15; c,R=n-C9H19; d,R=n-C11H23) with 1,1,1-tris(hydroxymethyl)-ethane (II), 2-n-alkyl-5-hydroxymethyl-5-methyl-1,3-dioxanes (IIIa-d) were obtained. Then they were reacted with SO3·pyridine complex in dry carbon tetrachloride solution, to obtain trisubstituted derivatives of 1,3-dioxane (IVa-d). They constitute a new group of chemodegradable, acetal-type anionic surfactants, which may readily hydrolyze and oxidize to nonsurfactant compounds. Physical data of the new compounds and some surface properties, such as Krafft point, critical micelle concentration (CMC), surface tension of aqueous solution near CMC (γCMC) and wetting and foaming properties, were determined. Sodium salts of sulfated 2-n-alkyl-5-hydroxymethyl-5-methyl-1,3-dioxanes (IVa-d) exhibit aqueous solution properties similar to those of the well-known sodium alkyloligooxyethylene sulfates. Presence of the 5-methyl-1,3-dioxane moiety in molecules of compounds IVa-d introduces hydrophobic character comparable to the effect of three oxyethylene groups (-CH2CH2O-) or of two methylene groups (-CH2-) of the alkyl chain in sodium alkyl ether sulfates [R(OCH2CH2)mOSO3Na] with equal R value.

TL;DR: In this paper, the 1:3 complex between antimony triiodide and sulfur, SbI3 * 3S8, is found to possess a high second-order optical nonlinearity.
Abstract: Crystals of the 1:3 complex between antimony triiodide and sulfur, SbI3 * 3S8, are found to possess a high second-order optical nonlinearity. The powder second-harmonic generation efficiency is found to be approximately half of that of the isostructural complex of iodoform with sulfur, CHI3 * 3S8. Second-harmonic generation can be phase matched. The phase-matching angle of type I is found to be approximately 30° at the fundamental wavelength 1.064 μm. The Maker fringes’ measurements give χ222(2)≅16 pm/V, χ333(2)≅23 pm/V and χ311(2)≅15 pm/V, for the values of the components of the second-order susceptibility tensor. The third-rank hyperpolarizability tensor β was decomposed into irreducible parts; the norms of the vector part and the septor (octupolar) part in the SbI3 * 3S8 complex were evaluated to be βυ = 52.1 × 10−40 m4/V and βs = 20.2 × 10−40 m4/V, respectively.

TL;DR: In this paper, it has been determined that ion-water and cation-surface active anion interactions govern the ion flotation selectivity, when a sublate was not formed in the bulk solution.
Abstract: It has been determined that ion-water and cation-surface active anion interactions govern the ion flotation selectivity, when a sublate was not formed in the bulk solution. The flotation selectivity orders of anions were correlated with the experimentally-determined viscosity coefficients, whereas the flotation selectivity orders of cations were correlated with their ionic potential values. It has been found that, if sublate precipitation takes place in the bulk solution, the surface charge of sublate was the key factor influencing the floatability of an ion. Basic properties of sublates, e.g. the solubility and electrokinetic potential in aqueous solution have been determined. Ion flotation kinetics, using cobalt(II) and cobalt(III) ions as an example, is also considered in this study.

TL;DR: In this article, an optical fiber silicon pressure sensor with a bossed membrane has been fabricated and a photovoltage proportional to the degree of deflection of the membrane is generated in the junction.
Abstract: A novel optical-fiber silicon pressure sensor with a bossed membrane has been fabricated. The pressure deflects the micromachined thin membrane and moves the end of a fiber illuminating the p-n junction fabricated near the edge of the membrane in a standard IC process. A photovoltage proportional to the degree of deflection of the membrane is generated in the junction. A nontypical output voltage versus inlet pressure characteristic has been obtained.

Abstract: The paper reviews the research carried out on polar molecular solids: low-molecular weight molecular crystals and polymers, the attention being focused on details of their molecular architecture leading to a possible appearance of ferroelectricity. Possible directions of search for molecular ferooelectrics are discussed in the paper: it is believed that novel ferroelectric materials may be sought among crystals built of molecules undergoing subtle conformational changes, and in weak CT complexes undergoing specific phase transitions.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors synthesized and screened for herbicidal activity on Lepidium sativum L. L. appeared to be more tolerant to these analogues, while their influence on shoot growth was negligible.
Abstract: Phosphonic and phosphinic acid analogues of glutamic and aspartic acids were synthesized and screened for herbicidal activity on Lepidium sativum L. Depending on the chemical structure, they exhibited significant or moderate herbicidal activity against L. sativum roots (with some representatives being equipotent with phosphinothricin), while their influence on shoot growth was negligible. Cucumis sativus L. appeared to be more tolerant to these analogues. The origin of this selectivity remains to be determined.
