Contribution of main stem and tillers to durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. var. durum) grain yield and its components grown in Mediterranean environments

TL;DR: Under water-stress conditions, high tillering genotypes showed yield levels similar to the genotypes with restricted tillering, and there was no significant evidence of a positive or negative effect of maximum tiller number on grain yield under rainfed conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Differential Selection on Rhynchosporium secalis During Parasitic and Saprophytic Phases in the Barley Scald Disease Cycle

TL;DR: Results provide the first direct evidence that R. secalis pathogen genotypes differ in their saprophytic ability and parasitic fitness under field conditions, and suggest a risk of directional selection and possible erosion of the resistance following its widespread deployment in monoculture.
Journal ArticleDOI

Using a Chlorophyll Meter to Optimize Nitrogen Fertilizer Application for Intensively-Managed Small-Grain Cereals

TL;DR: Leaf chlorophyll content of cereals was used to predict N availability and applying N fertilizer on this basis improved production economics and improved physical input-output ratio during grain yield formation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bacterium-mediated control of Fusarium head blight disease of wheat and barley and associated mycotoxin contamination of grain

TL;DR: This is the first report detailing the ability of fluorescent pseudomonad bacteria to control FHB disease and simultaneously reduce mycotoxin contamination of wheat and barley under field conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of Yellow Spot on Wheat: Comparison of Epidemics at Different Stages of Crop Development

RG Rees, +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of yellow spot (Pyrenophoua tuitici-repentis) on two wheat cultivars (Banks and Olympic) have been examined in a field experiment where distinctly different epidemics were produced in various treatments.

Crop loss assessment methods.

L. Chiarappa
TL;DR: In the same year, the director general of FAOFAO convened a Symposium on crop losses to emphasize the need for the development and use of experimental methods to estimate crop losses quantitatively as mentioned in this paper.

Plant Breeding Institute.

W. Hoffman
TL;DR: This follow-up report summarises pathotype (pt.) assay results from the samples that have been processed to date, and of note is the recovery of wheat leaf rust pt.1, considered to be of exotic origin.
