Spatial and Temporal Variation of Cultivable Communities of Co-occurring Endophytes and Pathogens in Wheat.
TL;DR: Results indicate great species diversity in wheat, with endophytes and pathogens co-occurring inside plant tissues, and among all species recovered some might be good candidates as biological control agents, given their known effects toward plant pathogens.
Journal ArticleDOI
Forcing a wheat crop model with LAI data to access agronomic variables: Evaluation of the impact of model and LAI uncertainties and comparison with an empirical approach
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluate the performance of estimating agronomic variables, such as total above ground biomass at key stages, or yield, from LAI data that could potentially be obtained from remote sensing observations.

Leading farmers in South East Australia have closed the exploitable wheat yield gap: Prospects for further improvement
Harm van Rees,Tim McClelland,Zvi Hochman,Peter Carberry,James R. Hunt,Neil Huth,Dean Holzworth +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the applicability of modelling to develop new and innovative practices for wheat fields in South East Australia has been evaluated using the cropping systems simulator APSIM. But, the results showed that yield-reducing factors not simulated by APSIM (weeds, disease etc.) were largely controlled on these farms and confirms APSIM's suitability for this analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inheritance of resistance to leaf and glume blotch caused by Septoria nodorum Berk. in winter wheat
TL;DR: Strong selection within a few populations may be as effective to obtain new resistant genotypes as selection in a large number of populations to improve S. nodorum resistance by combination breeding followed by strong selection in large populations.

Identification of QTLs Associated with Fusarium Head Blight Resistance in Barley Accession CIho 4196
Richard D. Horsley,D. Schmierer,Christina Maier,David Kudrna,Carlos A. Urrea,Brian J. Steffenson,Paul B. Schwarz,Jerome D. Franckowiak,M. J. Green,Bingxin Zhang,Andris Kleinhofs +10 more
TL;DR: To better understand the genetics of reduced FHB severity and DON accumulation conferred by CIho 4196, a genetic map was generated using a population of recombinant inbred lines derived from a cross between Foster (a six-rowed malting cultivar) and CIho4196.

Crop loss assessment methods.
TL;DR: In the same year, the director general of FAOFAO convened a Symposium on crop losses to emphasize the need for the development and use of experimental methods to estimate crop losses quantitatively as mentioned in this paper.
Plant Breeding Institute.
TL;DR: This follow-up report summarises pathotype (pt.) assay results from the samples that have been processed to date, and of note is the recovery of wheat leaf rust pt.1, considered to be of exotic origin.
