Yield increase induced by the fungal root endophyte Piriformospora indica in barley grown at low temperature is nutrient limited
TL;DR: Piriformospora indica is amenable to axenic culture, sporulates readily and can be multiplied rapidly, suggesting that it could be developed as an effective crop treatment in low temperature stressed barley and may have the potential to increase crop yield in colder growing conditions provided that adequate nutrients are supplied.

Radiation interception and use efficiency as affected by breeding in mediterranean wheat
TL;DR: As the oldest genotypes have lower number of grains per m2 than their modern counterparts, it is suggested that post-anthesis RUE in these cultivars was reduced by lack of sinks and therefore further increases in grains per unit area in modern cultivars could permit to improve biomass via increases in post-altered IPAR% and RUE.

Quantifying the contributions and losses of dry matter from non-surviving shoots in four cultivars of winter wheat
TL;DR: It is concluded that non-surviving shoots will reduce yield potential in the majority of situations by competing for assimilate with the developing ears in fertile shoots and that the detrimental effects are likely be most acute in drought situations.

A Programmable Aerial Multispectral Camera System for In-Season Crop Biomass and Nitrogen Content Estimation
TL;DR: A prototype multispectral camera system for aerial estimation of above-ground biomass and nitrogen content in winter wheat is introduced, based on an industrial multi-sensor camera and a customizable image processing routine.

Effect of wheat phosphorus status on leaf surface properties and permeability to foliar-applied phosphorus
Victoria Fernández,Paula Guzmán,Courtney A. E. Peirce,Therese M. McBeath,Mohamed Khayet,Mike J. McLaughlin,Mike J. McLaughlin +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of phosphorus (P) nutritional status on wheat leaf surface properties, in relation to foliar P absorption and translocation, was analyzed by scanning and transmission electron microscopy, showing that wheat leaves are markedly nonwettable, the abaxial leaf side having some degree of water drop adhesion versus the strong repulsion of water drops by the adaxial side.

Crop loss assessment methods.
TL;DR: In the same year, the director general of FAOFAO convened a Symposium on crop losses to emphasize the need for the development and use of experimental methods to estimate crop losses quantitatively as mentioned in this paper.

TL;DR: This follow-up report summarises pathotype (pt.) assay results from the samples that have been processed to date, and of note is the recovery of wheat leaf rust pt.1, considered to be of exotic origin.
