Strategies to Improve Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Winter Cereal Crops under Rainfed Conditions
L. M. Arregui,Miguel Quemada +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, two field experiments were performed in northern Spain to evaluate alternative N fertilization strategies to improve nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) in winter cereal crops (wheat [Triticum aestivum L] and barley [Hordeum vulgare L.]).
Journal ArticleDOI
Yield formation strategies of durum wheat landraces with distinct pattern of dispersal within the Mediterranean basin: II. Biomass production and allocation
TL;DR: The results highlight the relevance of early crop development and the remobilization of stored assimilates to grain as adaptative traits to dry Mediterranean environments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Farmer risk-aversion limits closure of yield and profit gaps: A study of nitrogen management in the southern Australian wheatbelt
TL;DR: In this article, a set of case-study sites across the southern Australian wheatbelt were examined to examine the risk-return profile of a range of N management options and show the extent to which the economics of N fertiliser decisions and the farmers' attitude to risk can determine N rates in a way that limits closure of yield gaps.

Modelling olive phenological response to weather and topography
Jose Oteros,Herminia García-Mozo,L. Vázquez,Antonio Mestre,Eugenio Domínguez-Vilches,Carmen Galán +5 more
TL;DR: A detailed analysis of the response of olive floral phenology to climate and topography in southern Spain was made in this article, where the optimal frequency of phenological sampling during the reproductive period, major topographical parameters governing local olive reproductive phenology, and the most influential meteorological variables were analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Probing behaviour of Diuraphis noxia on five cereal species with different hydroxamic acid levels
TL;DR: Findings indicate that factors from the mesophyll and vascular tissues appear to be involved in the effects of resistance of Diuraphis noxia, and DIMBOA seems to be only part of the chemical defenses of the cereal plants that might be implicated in D. noxia resistance.

Crop loss assessment methods.
TL;DR: In the same year, the director general of FAOFAO convened a Symposium on crop losses to emphasize the need for the development and use of experimental methods to estimate crop losses quantitatively as mentioned in this paper.
Plant Breeding Institute.
TL;DR: This follow-up report summarises pathotype (pt.) assay results from the samples that have been processed to date, and of note is the recovery of wheat leaf rust pt.1, considered to be of exotic origin.
