TLDR
In this article, a generalized heat-brush tapering approach is presented, in which the ratio of the feed and draw velocities changes within each tapering sweep, allowing for controlled and precise shaping of tapers with an arbitrary waist profile and dissimilar transition regions.Abstract:
We present a generalized heat-brush tapering approach in which the ratio of the feed and draw velocities changes within each tapering sweep. This approach allows for controlled and precise shaping of tapers with an arbitrary waist profile and dissimilar transition regions as demonstrated experimentally. A quantitative analysis of the mismatch error after each tapering sweep is also provided.read more

Brillouin light scattering from surface acoustic waves in a subwavelength-diameter optical fibre
Jean-Charles Beugnot,Sylvie Lebrun,Gilles Pauliat,Hervé Maillotte,Vincent Laude,Thibaut Sylvestre +5 more
TL;DR: In a subwavelength-diameter optical fibre, the first experimental observation of Brillouin light scattering from surface acoustic waves is reported, which opens new opportunities for various sensing applications, not only in microwave photonics and nonlinear plasmonics.

Two octaves mid-infrared supercontinuum generation in As_2Se_3 microwires
TL;DR: The first demonstration of mid-infrared supercontinuum generation in As₂Se₃ chalcogenide microwires with the added advantage of using low energy pulses is reported, with the generated SC covering two octaves of bandwidth and exceeding the broadest reported SC bandwidth.

Far detuned mid-infrared frequency conversion via normal dispersion modulation instability in chalcogenide microwire
TL;DR: In this paper, a hybrid polymer-chalcogenide optical microwire with a femtosecond optical parametric oscillator operating at 2.6 µm and 3.5 µm was shown to exhibit modulation instability in the mid-infrared spectral region.

Far-detuned mid-infrared frequency conversion via normal dispersion modulation instability in chalcogenide microwires
TL;DR: It is shown that this MI occurs in the normal dispersion regime through negative fourth-order dispersion and leads to far-detuned parametric frequency conversion at 2 and 3.5 μm, despite the presence of a strong absorption band around 2.8 μm.

The nonlinear coherent coupler
TL;DR: The nonlinear coherent coupler (NLCC) as mentioned in this paper is a device useful for optical processing, but not bistable, which utilizes the coherent interaction of two optical waveguides placed in close proximity.

The shape of fiber tapers
Tim A. Birks,Y.W. Li +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a model for the shape of optical fiber tapers, formed by stretching a fiber in a heat source of varying length, is presented, and a complete practical procedure for the formation of fiber taper with any reasonable shape is thus presented.

Coupled-Mode Theory for Optical Fibers
TL;DR: In this paper, a set of coupled-mode equations is derived to describe mode propagation in uniform and slightly nonuniform cylindrical optical-fiber systems, and the coupling between fibers of an array made up of n identical fibers each at the vertex of a polygon and one at the center, which is not necessarily the same as its n neighbors, is determined.
