Abstract
SUMMARY A modification of an earlier rating scale for extrapyramidal system disturbance is described, and evidence for the validity and reliability of the scale is presented. The usefulness of the scale in studies of neuroleptic drugs is discussed. By its application it is possible to quantify extrapyramidal side effects and to separate them into four principal factors.

Differential effects of aripiprazole on D(2), 5-HT(2), and 5-HT(1A) receptor occupancy in patients with schizophrenia: a triple tracer PET study.

TL;DR: Aripiprazole exhibits a unique occupancy profile as compared with other conventional and atypical antipsychotics, and the threshold for response appears to be higher than 60%, extrapyramidal side effects appear to be uncommon even at occupancies that exceed the conventional extrapYramidal Side effects threshold of 80%, and 5-HT(2) occupancy is lower than D( 2) occupancy.

Clinical characteristics of akathisia. A systematic investigation of acute psychiatric inpatient admissions.

TL;DR: Assessment of drug-induced movement disorders was carried out regularly on 104 psychiatric patients requiring antipsychotic medication on admission to hospital, suggesting two distinct types of acute akathisia; one related to severe parkinsonism and one not.

Randomised controlled trials of conventional antipsychotic versus new atypical drugs, and new atypical drugs versus clozapine, in people with schizophrenia responding poorly to, or intolerant of, current drug treatment.

TL;DR: There was a trend towards participants in the conventional drug group scoring more highly on the utility measure at 1 year, which suggests that the failure to find the predicted advantage for new atypicals was not due to inadequate recruitment and statistical power in this sample.

Clinical pharmacokinetics of atypical antipsychotics: a critical review of the relationship between plasma concentrations and clinical response.

TL;DR: This review of the literature concerning the relationships between plasma concentrations of SGAs and clinical responses is divided by dividing the studies on the basis of the length of their observation periods by indicating a relationship between clinical outcomes and plasma concentrations.

Markers of Glutamatergic Neurotransmission and Oxidative Stress Associated With Tardive Dyskinesia

TL;DR: It is suggested that there are elevated levels of oxidative stress and glutamatergic neurotransmission in tardive dyskinesia, both of which may be relevant to the pathophysiology of tardiv dysKinesia.
