Biocompatible Copper Oxide Nanoparticle Composites from Cellulose and Chitosan: Facile Synthesis, Unique Structure, and Antimicrobial Activity

TL;DR: The antibacterial activity was found to be correlated with the CuONPs content in the composites, and at CuONP concentration of 35 nmol/mg or lower, bactericidal activity of the composite was complemented by its biocompatibility with human fibroblasts.
Journal ArticleDOI

One-Pot Synthesis of Biocompatible Silver Nanoparticle Composites from Cellulose and Keratin: Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity

TL;DR: Experimental results confirm that the [CEL+KER+Ag0NPs] composite possesses all of the required properties for it to be successfully used as a high-performance dressing to treat chronic ulcerous infected wounds and also indicate that it can be used for the controlled delivery of drugs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Facile synthesis, structure, biocompatibility and antimicrobial property of gold nanoparticle composites from cellulose and keratin.

TL;DR: The [CEL+KER+Au0NPs] composite exhibited up to 97% and 98% reduction in growth of antibiotic resistant bacteria such as vancomycin resistant Enterococcus faecalis and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, and was not cytotoxic to human fibroblasts.
Journal ArticleDOI

Celluloses as support materials for antibacterial agents: a review

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of cellulose based antibacterial cellulose biocomposites is presented, where the authors make an attempt to find out merits and demerits in terms of performance stability, processing simplicity, cytotoxicity and efficiency in antibacterial activity.
Journal ArticleDOI

A novel copper-based 3D porous nanocomposite for electrochemical detection and inactivation of pathogenic bacteria

TL;DR: In this article, a 3D porous nanocomposite modified with vancomycin (Van) for simultaneous detection and treatment of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) is presented.

What nano can do for energy storage.

Yury Gogotsi
- 24 Jun 2014 -
TL;DR: Understanding nanoscale processes in energy storagematerials is essential to uncover the underlying mechanisms and with this knowledge, new concepts can be formulated that will be developed into revolutionary new electrical energy storage devices and technologies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reporting performance in organic photovoltaic devices.

TL;DR: The dangers of cherry-picking of data and poor descriptions of experimental procedures are outlined, followed by a discussion of a real data set of OPV devices, and how a simple and easy statistical treatment can help to distinguish between results that are indistinguishable experimentally, and those that do appear to be different.
Journal ArticleDOI

Full Disclosure: The Practical Side of Nanoscale Total Synthesis

TL;DR: This Perspective highlights some of the practical considerations that are important for all nanoparticle syntheses but that become magnified significantly when multiple sequential reactions are required to generate a target product.
