Surface elastic waves

TL;DR: In this article, the propagation of various elastic waves at the surfaces of solids is considered, followed by descriptions of the many ways which have been demonstrated for transduction between surface elastic waves and electromagnetic waves.

Grating transducer for acoustic touchscreen

TL;DR: An acoustic touch sensing device, comprising a substrate, having a surface; and an acoustic wave transducer (11, 12), transducing a bulk wave in the substrate propagating through the substrate along an axis intersecting the surface, wherein energy of bulk wave is coupled to a wave having a converted wave mode with energy at the surface and propagating along the surface by the gratings transducers (5a, 5b, 8a, 8b) as discussed by the authors.

Surface Acoustic Waves

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that a semi-infinite, isotropic, elastic medium, bounded by a single, stress-free, planar surface, can support surface vibration modes that are wavelike in directions parallel to the surface of the solid, but whose amplitudes decay exponentially with increasing distance into the solid from the surface, with a decay length that is of the order of the wavelength of the wave along the surface.

Microsound Surface Waveguides

TL;DR: In this paper, the theoretical and experimental progress on topographic guides for the development of surface wave microsound systems is reviewed, and some preliminary results on topographical guides are presented.

Apparatus that generates acoustic signals at discrete multiple frequencies and that couples acoustic signals into a cladded-core acoustic waveguide

TL;DR: In this article, the shape of curvilinear interdigital conductors is used to focus the surface acoustic wave at focal point 70 located near the end of acoustic waveguide 72, where the acoustic signals travel through the cladding to couple to the core.

Surface elastic-wave propagation and amplification

TL;DR: In this paper, the dependence on distance from the surface of the elastic and the electric fields associated with surface elastic-wave propagation in cadmium sulfide has been investigated, and the interaction impedance, relating the external electric field to power flow, is computed for propagation on the basal plane of CdS and found to be low in comparison with values characteristic of electromagnetic slowwave circuits.

Frequency response of an interdigital transducer for excitation of surface elastic waves

TL;DR: In this paper, Lamb's integral solution has been used to analyze the elastic wave propagation in a piezoelectric solid by an interdigital transducer, in terms of a simplified model, in which the transducers generate three types of disturbances propagating at the velocities of irrotational, equivoluminal and Rayleigh waves.
Journal ArticleDOI

Realisation of microwave-circuit functions using acoustic surface waves

TL;DR: In this paper, the feasibility of constructing waveguides and directional couplers is demonstrated experimentally, and some theoretical considerations referring to waveguiders are presented, but the feasibility is not discussed.
