Abstract
Air, air, air… and some solid skeleton; this is the basis for an interesting class of materials-the aerogels (shown schematically on the right). Can one therefore speak of "simple" chemistry? The design of such a filigrane network requires the very careful control of chemical parameters. The reward is an assortment of different property profiles owing to the richness of possible variations.

Fluorine-induced hydrophobicity in silica aerogels

TL;DR: The use of the R-substituted organosiloxanes in hydrolysis-condensation reactions with tetraalkoxysilanes is a flexible way to incorporate functional groups into silica gels and aerogels as mentioned in this paper.

Imperviousness of the hydrophobic silica aerogels against various solvents and acids

TL;DR: The experimental results on the imperviousness of the silica aerogels against various organic solvents and acids, are reported in this paper, where various types of hydrophobic silica-aerogels were prepared using methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS); tetraethoxyselane (TEOS), with ethyltriethoxynethoxymethylane (ETES), and phenyltreeethioxyseline (PTES) as co-precursors.

Assembling Inorganic Nanocrystal Gels

- 05 Feb 2022 -
TL;DR: In this article , different mechanisms for assembling gels from colloidal nanocrystals including (1) controlled destabilization, (2) direct bridging, (3) depletion, as well as linking mediated by (4) coordination bonding or (5) dynamic covalent bonding are reviewed.

Effect of catalyst and substrate on the moisture diffusivity of silica-aerogel-coated metal foams

TL;DR: In this paper, the dehumidifying performance of desiccant coated on substrates often depends on the micro-structure of aerogel desiccants, as well as on the characteristics of substrates, such as surface area.
