Abstract
Air, air, air… and some solid skeleton; this is the basis for an interesting class of materials-the aerogels (shown schematically on the right). Can one therefore speak of "simple" chemistry? The design of such a filigrane network requires the very careful control of chemical parameters. The reward is an assortment of different property profiles owing to the richness of possible variations.

Binary Crystallized Supramolecular Aerogels Derived from Host–Guest Inclusion Complexes

TL;DR: In this article, a new type of aerogels, supramolecular aerogel (SMAs), derived from a self-assembling of poly(ethylene glycol) and α-/γ-cyclodextrin, is presented.

Reinforcement of silica with single-walled carbon nanotubes through covalent functionalization

TL;DR: In this paper, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were extended into silica monoliths and thin films via covalent functionalization for the first time.

Aerogels Derived from Polymer Nanofibers and Their Applications

TL;DR: In this review, recent research progress in the fabrication, properties, and applications of PNAs is summarized and typical applications in supercapacitors, electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction, flexible electrodes, oil absorbents, adsorbents, tissue engineering, stimuli-responsive materials, and catalyst carriers are presented.

Synthesis and Characterization of Ru(II) Tris(1,10-phenanthroline)-Electron Acceptor Dyads Incorporating the 4-Benzoyl-N-methylpyridinium Cation or N-Benzyl-N‘-methyl Viologen. Improving the Dynamic Range, Sensitivity, and Response Time of Sol−Gel-Based Optical Oxygen Sensors

TL;DR: In this paper, it was found that the intramolecular quenching efficience of 4-benzoyl-Nmethylpyridinium cation in solution depends on the solvent: photoluminescence is quenched completely in CH,CN, but not in methanol or ethanol.

Enhancing mechanical properties of silica aerogels

TL;DR: In this article, low-density monolithic silica and hexylene-bridged polysilsesquioxane aerogels were treated with hexamethyldisilazane or hexachlorodisilane silylating agents producing TMS (trimethylsilane) or Si layers on the aerogel.
