TLDR
The design of such a filigrane network requires the very careful control of chemical parameters and the reward is an assortment of different property profiles owing to the richness of possible variations.Abstract:
Air, air, air… and some solid skeleton; this is the basis for an interesting class of materials-the aerogels (shown schematically on the right). Can one therefore speak of "simple" chemistry? The design of such a filigrane network requires the very careful control of chemical parameters. The reward is an assortment of different property profiles owing to the richness of possible variations.read more

Enhanced flame retardancy of hydrophobic silica aerogels by using sodium silicate as precursor and phosphoric acid as catalyst
TL;DR: In this paper, the flammability of the typical precursor, i.e., tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and sodium silicate (SS), synthetic SAs was investigated separately by cone calorimeter.

Amphiphilic SiO2 hybrid aerogel: an effective absorbent for emulsified wastewater
TL;DR: In this paper, a SiO2-chitosan composite system with strong purifying capacity to intractable emulsified wastewaters is presented, where the hybrid aerogels are realized by integrating the hydrophilic chitosans into an organosilane modified siO2 nanoframework via sol-gel and ambient drying processes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reducing the flammability of hydrophobic silica aerogels by doping with hydroxides.
TL;DR: It was indicated that the flame-retardant effect of AH and MH correlated with their inhibitory effect on the pyrolysis of SA, while MH showed much better flame- retardant performance than that of AH.

Using nanocapsules as building blocks to fabricate organic polymer nanofoam with ultra low thermal conductivity and high mechanical strength
Yingwu Luo,Changhuai Ye +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a new strategy using the performed nanocapsules with well-defined highly crosslinked polymer shell as building blocks was proposed to fabricate the organic polymeric nanofoam.

Bottom-Up Assembly of Ni2P Nanoparticles into Three-Dimensional Architectures: An Alternative Mechanism for Phosphide Gelation
TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis of Ni2P nanoparticle 3D architectures using two different approaches is reported, the oxidation-induced sol-gel method involves chemical oxidation of surface phosphorus to form P-O-P linkages between particles in the gel network, similar to the mechanism originally reported for InP nanoparticles.
