TLDR
The design of such a filigrane network requires the very careful control of chemical parameters and the reward is an assortment of different property profiles owing to the richness of possible variations.Abstract:
Air, air, air… and some solid skeleton; this is the basis for an interesting class of materials-the aerogels (shown schematically on the right). Can one therefore speak of "simple" chemistry? The design of such a filigrane network requires the very careful control of chemical parameters. The reward is an assortment of different property profiles owing to the richness of possible variations.read more

Electroanalytical Assessment of the Effect of Ni:Fe Stoichiometry and Architectural Expression on the Bifunctional Activity of Nanoscale NiyFe1–yOx
Jesse S. Ko,Christopher N. Chervin,Mallory N. Vila,Paul A. DeSario,Joseph F. Parker,Jeffrey W. Long,Debra R. Rolison +6 more
TL;DR: Electrocatalytic activity favors Fe-rich NiyFe1-yOx materials; however, as the Ni-content increases beyond y = 0.5, a two-electron reduction pathway is still exhibited, demonstrating that bifunctional OER and ORR activity may be possible by choosing a nickel ferrite nanoarchitecture that provides high OER activity with sufficient OrR activity.

Computational design of biopolymer aerogels and predictive modelling of their nanostructure and mechanical behaviour
Rajesh Chandrasekaran,Markus Hillgärtner,Kathirvel Ganesan,Barbara Milow,Mikhail Itskov,Ameya Rege +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a computational approach was developed by combining the random closed packing of polydisperse spheres together with the Laguerre-Voronoi tessellation for reconstructing or designing the 3D microstructure of nanoporous materials.

Methyl tert-butyl ether as a new solvent for the preparation of SiO2–TiO2 binary aerogels
Kh. E. Yorov,N. A. Sipyagina,A. N. Malkova,Alexander E. Baranchikov,Alexander E. Baranchikov,Sergei A. Lermontov,L. P. Borilo,Vladimir Ivanov,Vladimir Ivanov +8 more
TL;DR: SiO2-TiO2 binary aerogels have been synthesized for the first time using methyl tert-butyl ether as supercritical fluid as discussed by the authors, and they contain nanocrystalline anatase.

‘Seeded’ growth of silica aerogel by tetraethoxysilane and trimethylchlorosilane co-precursor method
TL;DR: In this article, the hydrophobic group Si(CH3)3 and its presence at the growth front was investigated and the degree of condensation and the cross-link of the samples should be affected.
