Abstract
Air, air, air… and some solid skeleton; this is the basis for an interesting class of materials-the aerogels (shown schematically on the right). Can one therefore speak of "simple" chemistry? The design of such a filigrane network requires the very careful control of chemical parameters. The reward is an assortment of different property profiles owing to the richness of possible variations.

Synthesis of polyimide cross-linked silica aerogels with good acoustic performance

TL;DR: Polyimide cross-linked silica gels with different weight percentages of solid precursors and different volumes of MTMS were prepared by using bis(trimethoxysilylpropyl)amine (BTMSPA) crosslinked polyamide acid, synthesized by 4,4′-oxydianiline (ODA), p-phenylenediamine (PPDA), compounding with a silica network which was hydrolysed by MTMS, then supercritically dried to produce a hybrid aerogel as discussed by the authors.

Sorption capacity of hydrophobic cellulose cryogels silanized by two different methods

TL;DR: In this article, the development of hydrophobic cellulose cryogels for application in petroleum sorption was studied, where the most effective silanization method was by vapor deposition where the petroleum capacity was 50% higher than by the cellulose addition method using methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS).
