Analysis of crack formation and crack growth in concrete by means of fracture mechanics and finite elements

TLDR
In this article, fracture mechanics is introduced into finite element analysis by means of a model where stresses are assumed to act across a crack as long as it is narrowly opened, which may be regarded as a way of expressing the energy adsorption in the energy balance approach.

Predicting concrete behaviour from quasi-static loading to hypervelocity impact

TL;DR: In this paper, the main results obtained during a long and intensive research period on the modelling of the main physical mechanisms related to damage and fracture of concrete are presented, and the most important features of the coupled model are given.

On the analysis of the failure process in composite materials by numerical simulation

TL;DR: In this article, the mechanisms of a composite material are treated in terms of a numerical model which simulates in finite elements terms the two major phases: inclusions and the matrix binding them, with a mechanically weak interface.

Fracture simulation of CFRP laminates in mixed mode bending

TL;DR: In this paper, an analytical approach is used to estimate the total mixed mode and decomposed fracture energies for laminates with different stacking sequences, which is also validated through experiments.

Micromechanisms Associated with the Dynamic Compressive Failure of Hot-Pressed Boron Carbide

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed study of boron carbide fragments was performed using SEM-EDS, to identify the mechanisms responsible for failure in dynamic uniaxial compression using a Kolsky bar technique.

A thermodynamic approach to constitutive modelling of concrete using damage mechanics and plasticity theory

TL;DR: In this article, a thermodynamic approach to constitutive modelling of concrete is proposed, with emphasis on the rigour and consistency both in the formulation of constitutive models, and in the identification of model parameters based on experimental tests.
