Analysis of crack formation and crack growth in concrete by means of fracture mechanics and finite elements

TLDR
In this article, fracture mechanics is introduced into finite element analysis by means of a model where stresses are assumed to act across a crack as long as it is narrowly opened, which may be regarded as a way of expressing the energy adsorption in the energy balance approach.

Explanation of size effect in concrete fracture using non-uniform energy distribution

TL;DR: In this paper, a local fracture energy model was proposed to explain the influence of fracture process zone (FPZ) on fracture energy of cementitious materials, which was further developed by assuming a bilinear distribution for the fracture energy distribution, and the ligament-dependent fracture energy was obtained.

Reliability of polyolefin fibre reinforced concrete beyond laboratory sizes and construction procedures

TL;DR: In this paper, a numerical model based on the fracture cohesive crack approach is proposed for modelling the fracture of the tested specimens, which shows a remarkably reliable performance of the polyolefin FRC.
Journal ArticleDOI

Machining of particulate-reinforced metal matrix composites: An investigation into the chip formation and subsurface damage

TL;DR: In this paper, a microstructure-based model for investigating the mechanisms of chip formation and subsurface damage in the machining of particulate-reinforced metal matrix composites (PRMMCs) was developed.

Cohesive zone model and quasibrittle failure of wood: a new light on the adapted specimen geometries for fracture tests.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focus on the cohesive zone modeling of quasibrittle failure of wood and present a general estimation procedure of the cohesive parameters based on the one-to-one correspondence which exists between the R-curve and the softening function for any kind of specimen geometry.

Fracture Process Zone of Concrete Cracks

TL;DR: In this article, the crack tip locations of the macro-crack and the fracture process zone were determined experimentally and used as input conditions for these generation analyses, and the crack opening resistance along the process zone was then adjusted to achieve consistency in the computed CTOD.
