Analysis of crack formation and crack growth in concrete by means of fracture mechanics and finite elements
TLDR
In this article, fracture mechanics is introduced into finite element analysis by means of a model where stresses are assumed to act across a crack as long as it is narrowly opened, which may be regarded as a way of expressing the energy adsorption in the energy balance approach.About:

The influence of coarse aggregate size and volume on the fracture behavior and brittleness of self-compacting concrete
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the results of an experimental investigation on fracture characteristics and brittleness of self-compacting concrete (SCC), involving the tests of 185 three point bending beams with different coarse aggregate size and content.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modeling Plaque Fissuring and Dissection during Balloon Angioplasty Intervention
TL;DR: The predicted results indicate that plaque fissuring and dissection cause localized mechanical trauma, but prevent the main portion of the stenosis from high stress, and hence from continuous tissue damage.

Cracking tendency of self-compacting concrete subjected to restrained shrinkage : Experimental study and modeling
TL;DR: In this paper, a study on cracking risk due to shrinkage of self-compacting concrete (SCC) was presented, where the authors compared material properties, such as shrinkage, modulus of elasticity, creep, and fracture parameters, between SCC mixtures and ordinary concrete (OC) mixtures.

An analysis of the shear-transfer actions in reinforced concrete members without transverse reinforcement based on refined experimental measurements
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the role of various shear transfer actions in reinforced concrete members without transverse reinforcement and provided a rational basis for the understanding of the phenomenon of shear failure.

Numerical Simulation of Aggregate Shapes of Three-Dimensional Concrete and Its Applications
TL;DR: In this paper, a 3D random aggregate simulation (3D-RAS) structure was used to model aggregate shapes of 3D concrete, where the shape, size and spatial distribution of the aggregate particles resemble real concrete in the statistical sense, and fundamental aggregate diameters within the same gradation were assumed to follow random Gaussian distributions.
