TLDR
The possibility of using the anammox process to remove nitrogen from anaerobically pre-treated municipal wastewater was demonstrated and DGGE revealed that the addition of anaerobic effluent changed the bacterial community structure and selected for DNA sequences related to Brocadia sinica and Chloroflexi.

Microbial communities in anammox reactors: a review

TL;DR: This study presents a review of the microbial diversity studies in anammox reactors, and finds that some microbial groups such as Proteobacteria and Chloroflexi have always been found with Planctomycetes in anlammox reactors.

Microbial transcript and metabolome analysis uncover discrepant metabolic pathways in autotrophic and mixotrophic anammox consortia.

TL;DR: Results showed that metabolically active community structures did not show significant difference between autotrophic and mixotrophic anammox consortia (C/N = 0.3), and changes in the metabolic state were the main cause for those discrepancies in virtue of the added acetate oxidized via the acetyl-CoA pathway byMixotrophicAnammox bacteria.

Activity and composition of the denitrifying bacterial community respond differently to long-term fertilization

TL;DR: It is inferred that the combined application of chemical and organic fertilizers remarkably influenced the community composition of narG-containing bacteria.

Coupling anammox with heterotrophic denitrification for enhanced nitrogen removal: A review

TL;DR: Anammox has been recognized as the current most cost-effective nitrogen removal process However, the issue of excess nitrate residue from its effluent remains to be addressed in order to meet the

Autotrophic growth of anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing micro-organisms in a fluidized bed reactor

TL;DR: An autotrophic, synthetic medium for the enrichment of anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing (Anammox) micro-organisms was developed and Acetylene, phosphate and oxygen were shown to be strong inhibitors of the Anammox activity.

Key Physiology of Anaerobic Ammonium Oxidation

TL;DR: The physiology of anaerobic ammonium oxidizing (anammox) aggregates grown in a sequencing batch reactor was investigated quantitatively and the anammox process was completely inhibited by nitrite concentrations higher than 0.1 g of nitrogen per liter.
