TLDR
In hip and knee patients, preoperative depressive symptoms predicted smaller changes in different HOOS or KOOS subscales and patients were less satisfied 12 months postoperatively than patients without anxiety or depressive symptoms.

The Role of Psychosocial Processes in the Development and Maintenance of Chronic Pain.

TL;DR: Evidence that psychosocial variables play key roles in conferring risk for the development of pain, in shaping long-term pain-related adjustment, and in modulating pain treatment outcomes is described.

Patient Satisfaction after Total Knee Arthroplasty

TL;DR: Among various factors that contribute to patient satisfaction, some factors can be managed by the surgeon, which should be improved through continuous research.
Journal ArticleDOI

Patient phenotyping in clinical trials of chronic pain treatments: IMMPACT recommendations.

TL;DR: Evidence is presented on the most promising phenotypic characteristics of patients that are most predictive of individual variation in analgesic treatment outcomes, and the measurement tools that are best suited to evaluate these characteristics.

John Charnley Award: Preoperative Patient-reported Outcome Measures Predict Clinically Meaningful Improvement in Function After THA.

TL;DR: Preoperative patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) scores are used to predict which patients undergoing THA are most likely to experience a clinically meaningful change in functional outcome 1 year after surgery and to support the development of patient-based informed decision-making tools.
Journal ArticleDOI

Increased satisfaction after total knee replacement using sensor-guided technology

TL;DR: En Ensuring soft-tissue balance by using intra-operative sensors during TKR may improve satisfaction, and no previous study with a mean level of satisfaction that was greater than the reportedlevel of satisfaction of the balanced TKR group in this study is identified.

Psychological Factors Affecting the Outcome of Total Hip and Knee Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review

TL;DR: Low preoperative mental health and pain catastrophizing have an influence on outcome after TKA, and with regard to the influence of other psychological factors and for hip patients, only limited, conflicting, or no evidence was found.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effectiveness of hip or knee replacement surgery in terms of quality-adjusted life years and costs.

TL;DR: Hip and knee replacement both improve HRQoL and the cost per quality-adjusted life year gained from knee replacement is twice that gained from hip replacement.

Prevalence of acute and post-traumatic stress disorder and comorbid mental disorders in breast cancer patients during primary cancer care: a prospective study.

TL;DR: A large number of women with emotional distress illustrate the need for psychosocial counseling and support in this early treatment phase, and whether the diagnosis of PTSD is appropriate in this group of cancer patients is critically evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Predictors of outcomes of total knee replacement surgery

TL;DR: Predictors of pain were not necessarily the same as functional outcomes, which may be important in the context of a patient's expectations of surgery, but other predictive factors need to be identified to improve ability to recognize patients at risk of poor TKR outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Dutch version of the knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score: A validation study

TL;DR: The Dutch version of the KOOS had a lower construct validity for patients with severe OA on a waiting list for TKA and patients after revision of a TKA.
